Medical advice: this thingy in my mouth hurts

I have this weird thingy inside my lower lip. It kinda looks like a pimple (similar yellowish top), but it's not. It hurts 🙁. It's been there for about 4-5 days now. I'm going to see a dentist (on an unrelated issue) and I'm going to ask her as well. Any ideas what I might be facing here?

I got freaked when they started talking about herpes :Q! Luckily canker sore has nothing to do with it. And by their description, I might very well have it. Thanks for the link 🙂

That's what a cold sore is, herpes. Like, 99% of the population has herpes in their mouth. It's when it gets... down there.. that its a problem.

 
everytime i get a damn cankersore, i always nibble at it with my teeth inevitably making it worse and last for more days than it would if i left it alone

i don't know why i do it... it's some sort of subconcious thing i guess
 
I don't believe you can get cold sores *in* your mouth. Can anyone prove me wrong?

I get canker sores all the time, but have never had a cold sore. From what I understand, canker sores are *not* viral. I sometimes get a canker sore when I bite my cheek, or cut it somehow. I think it gets infected w/ bacteria, causing the pain of which you speak.

Ouch.

Canker sores are often confused with cold sores. An easy way to distinguish between the two is to remember that canker sores occur inside the mouth, and cold sores usually occur outside the mouth.

About 90% of adults have antibodies to HSV1 but its a bit of a stretch to say that 90% or more of them have HSV1 "in their mouth". HSV1 doesn't shed constantly.
