MediaPlay closing stores

Probably didn't like them because even with this 10% off games and 20% off accessories they will still be highly overpriced.

Well, I went by a MediaPlay today and they are closing. 20-40% off everything (with exceptions). Console games are only 10% off while PC games were 20% 😕

DVDs - 20% off
CDs - 20% off
Toys - 20% off
Books - 20% off
iPod accessories - 20% off

Only a few things were more than 20% off and were mostly stuff I wouldn't buy anyways.

I have never liked that store and I still cannot put my finger on why it turns me off so much

Bad prices, awful customer service, and being bombarded with offers of free Entertainment Weekly subscriptions (even though they start charging your CC after 4 issues) are what made me not like it.

Just called my g/f and she's upset. I just paid out my Replay Rewards membership for two more years over the summer because with Triple Points weekends you could buy a few cheap things and then get a $5 coupon. Compared to Beast Buy's lethal Reward Zone deal - $5 per $150 spent and you can't actually print out the coupons (nice for them) - they ruled. Suckage.

I found out about this the hard way. Tried to exchange a defective item last Sat. and the clerk said he couldn't. I'm like WTF ? I wanna talk to the Mgr. Mgr. gives me same story and I press on ... he finally admitted they were closing but he wasn't suppose to be talking before the news broke. Time to call VISA ...

Depending on your state's consumer-protection laws, that might have been outright illegal for him to refuse a return, on a defective item. Might want to check that out.

I never take no for an answer. I start to get louder and firmer in my tone until he feels personally threatened. Of course, I'm a pro at getting what I want in stores when possible. I understand that not all employees understand how the systems work and it's not their fault that they work for crappy companies with policies that rip off customers.

went to media play last nite in milpitas (california). i picked up lotr: battle for middle-earth (DVD) for $25 (retails $40) and a $30 for $19. i made out nice.

Maybe its because they're owned by Best Buy :Q

It wasn't a conscious decision, but I realized that I stopped going to my local media play about a month after the BB purchase was finalized.

Yeah, it was at least two years ago that BB sold off the entire MediaPlay group, including Suncoast and Sam Goody. (Actually pretty much GAVE it away, the group buying it basically just assuming the debt).
