media tank player

is there any other player that is similiar to the popcorn or istarmini? I want something small, can use 2.5" hdd but also want torrent download and media streaming and of course "cheap"

I have been at this for a while and I have discovered that "cheap" and good tanks are not remotely possible.

I am excited about the c200, but at $299 (plus HD or Bluray), cheap it aint.

I have retreated into the "how much do I *really* need this" mentality until the smoke clears.

Look into a WDTV player w/ the custom firmware. I've never used it, so I'm just putting it out there as another option.

I'm buying the wdhdtv come Friday when I get my cashback. I have been going back and forth between it and the egreat 34a and due to cost plus I have a external usb hd already I decided on on it.

This one looks interesting too, starts at $169. I just need to see pictures of the UI.

The the Syabas based players (the best "bargain" of which right now is the eGreat m34a in my opinion) are just far more versatile. They'll play pretty much anything you can throw at them, whereas the WD players can be a bit finicky even when playing a suppoedly supported file format. I do think the UI is a bit friendlier on the WD player (the media tanks frankly are very lacking in that regard unfortunately), but if your main purpose is to play video files, its hard to top the Syabas NMT players right now.

The lack of a network connection drastically reduces the convenience by forcing you to disconnect your USB hard drive to copy stuff onto it and reconnect is one of the reason I did not pursue to purchase WDTV. Also, WDTV does not even include a HDMI cable.

Considering my budget of <$200, Mvix Ultio satisfies my viewing dream. Ultio package includes HDMI cable - which itself is worth ranging from $10 - $50 - depending on where you buy it from. Very easy to set up, takes 5 minutes to complete all configurations and installations, and its ready to play.
Awesome features includes supports for ISO, MKV, RM/RMVB formats. I'm loving it everyday!

Just wanted to add that I ended up greating the egreat M34A and it is great! Have not had any issues playing my wide range of movies from vcd to mkv.

Have not networked it yet but will be doing it within the next 2 weeks as I great ready to run some new cat5e cable and hooking up my new switch.
