Media server build - advice needed

I am about to build my media server, and am still undecided which hardware to use.
Case will be Silverstone LaScala LC10. It has 7 3,5" bays, which will be enough. That's why motherboard needs to have 8, or at least 6 SATA ports. I am going to also use one PCI surveillance card, so obviously board needs to have at least 1 PCI slot.

I have one ASUS M4A785TD-M Evo board lying around, and also Athlon II X2 250 CPU, but I am not sure whether I should use these parts for my server (even 5 SATA ports this board has will be sufficient for at least a year), or buy new MoBo and CPU, and use current parts in another HTPC build.

As server will be on 24/7 I guess that power consumption has to be taken in account. Atom/Brazos builds are not an option, because of lack of SATA/PCI ports.
Obvious alternatives are Intel G440 / G530 CPUs, or maybe AMD A4-3300. Am I going to reach much lower power consumption compared with Athlon II X2 250?

Any advices would be highly appreciated.

If you really want lower power draw and don't need a whole lot of performance, go with a Celeron G530. Real world power draw will be very low, plus you have your choice of any socket 1155 motherboard.

I'm with Zap, even the slowest Sandy Bridge is fast enough for a media server. You also don't have to get a mobo with a ton of onboard SATA ports. Just add PCIe SATA controllers as you need more ports.

EDIT: I see now that you already have the Athlon and the mobo. You should definitely just use those because while the Sandy Bridge will use less power, it will take a long time to pay back its purchase price.
