What programs(besides windows media player) do you guys use to watch .avi, .mpg, and .mpeg files? Is there something out there that is better or equivalent to windows media player? Thanks 🙂

yeah... Media Player Classic.
and BS player works good too!

I second that. I use those two players myself too. It's enough to play anything I need.

i like windows media player classic too. simple and it does the job. the only drawback for me is lack of playlist when i want to go through a couple of videos or so. when i need to do that, i actually use winamp. i like winamp's easy to use playlist. btw, winamp 2.9 or whatever that was.

I use VideoLAN VLC.
Plays pretty much anything, nice clean interface, and one very nice thing is that if you're downloading a file, it will treat it as a stream, and play it as it gets downloaded.

jetAudio

I like Jet Audio it does play everything, including Quicktime, Realplayer stuff, mp3pro, it will play Divx and DVD movies (as long as you have the right codec?s) and the upcoming release version 6 will even play wmp9 HD movies like Terminator2.

Not only that but it has a built a CD ripper/burner, equalizer, sound effects like reverb, does internet broadcasting, custom skinable, and custom visualizations. It is the Swiss Knife of media players

What exactly is Media Player Classic? Is it an executable that hooks to the old WMP 6.4 to add more features? I can't seem to find any documentation/information on that guy's SourceForge site. I tried it out and found it very odd that a brand new media player handling multiple formats to weigh in at ~1MB. It's pretty damn cool regardless.

actually mplayer classic has a built-in playlist.. it's on the menu somewhere (I can't check right now.. I'm on a Mac), you can just drag the files you want to play to the playlist area.
NOT the built-in mplayer2.exe in windows, this is for that modified mplayerc.exe from sourceforge, check the link above.
