Media player is out of control

MustISO

Lifer
I have been using the media player that installs with Windows 2000 without any problems. Recently, it began to play videos very fast with terrible sound when I would seek ahead in the video. I think something corrupted a codec or something. I can't find media player 6.4 to re-install it so I got 7.1 and installed that. That does the same thing. Short of re-installing Windows, is there anything I can do?

I think you misunderstood. I know how to run media player and I know that 6.4 is still on my system but the problem is still there for both versions. I get static sound and fast motion video when I advance while playing a movie.

Do you get this with divx avi files with the divx 4 or 5 codec. If you are then it is normal as I and every system I've ever seen has he same problem which I hate. Divx 4 has an option to use the divx 3 codec for divx 3 files but divx 5 does not and they both have this problem when playing divx 4 or 5 encoded files. I started a post if this can be fixed or at leas if it is possible to still use the 3.0 codec most of the time. By the way, the bundled divx players with the codecs play normaly, it's just that every other player I know of has this problem.

Actually it's with MPG files. If I just let it play it's fine, but if I use the "slider" to fast forward, it gets all fast and the sound gets messed up. It's weird.
