I have been struggling with this problem for the past month. When I play a certain wmv file it always locks up my PC (screen freezes, kb and mouse unresponsive - reset required). It always happens at the same time, when a screen wipe occurs (video fades to white when it transistions to the next scene). I have tried the wmv on my laptop and the it plays all the way through.
I have tested my memory with memtest86+ (512mb pc-100 - no problems). I have removed and reinstalled the latest video card drivers. I have even tried a different video card (It is an old PC and has a Hercules Prophet 32mb DDR-DVI video card in it. I tried my friends old ATI 7000 Radeon in it, but still the same problem). I have tried installing wmp 10 (I am running Win XP SP2). I have tried turinig off the overlay option in wmp. I have turned down hardware acceleration on the video card, but still freezing.
Anybody has any ideas.
