Media Player Classic sound skipping

I've been watching my DVDs in Media Player Classic lately, and I just discovered the sound decoding options menu where you can change the default AC3 speaker setting from stereo. I changed it to 3 front speakers and 2 rear, and was like "wow, now it actually sounds like I have a center speaker!" Problem is, every 20 seconds or so, the sound/video skips. I change it back to stereo and the problem stops. But I want to enjoy 5.1 sound, what do I do? What's the problem?
