Media Player 7 kills DirectCD (among other things)

I'm running Windows 2000, and i've had Adaptec EZ cd creator 4.02C and Direct CD 3.01C running since the beginning and have worked fine. So i install media player 7 from MS. Then, on my next reboot, the DirectCD thing in the system tray has a red X or whatever over it, and it says i have no supported CDR/RW drives so i can't write to my CDRW discs. So...then i uninstall and reinstall DirectCD. Guess what? Same thing, except this time both my CDROM and CDRW drives have an exclamation point in device manager saying driver failed to load or some crap. So i uninstalled Media player 7. Everything works fine except DirectCD couldn't startup....Media player 7 messed up the startup paths or something. So i uninstall and reinstall DirectCD again and now it works fine. I am NEVER installing media player 7 again until MS or Adaptec has a patch for this. Has anyone experienced this problem and do you know if there is a patch or fix for it? Thanks

The problem is with the adaptec plugin included with Media Player 7. Do not install it.

This problem has already been reported in win98central.com - today's or yesterday's news.

Hmmm. Well, i installed it from windows update, and it didn't give me the option of installing components or whatever, it just installed.
