WMP11 works just fine if you don't need to play .aac files, and you don't care about transcoding.

if one uses k-lite codec pack (or manually modify the registry) to add the ability for WMP to include those extra file types in its library, then it should stream them.

Oh...I have no idea. You'd think if the PS3 can see them it can play them (provided they're encoded using the proper profile/parameters in the first place).

On my 360 my mp4s and m4vs wouldn't show until I modified the registry to add them to the media library. After that it worked fine. I would hope it's not all that different with the PS3.

WMP11 + FFDSHOW = play just about anything on the Xbox 360. Same with the PS3. Media Center sucks because it's unable to play xvid or divx by itself! It's insane that they haven't allowed it to use the codecs, but WMP can.
