Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault demo out

It'll destroy my computer. I'll just wait until my new one is up and running to download it. Probably won't be any good, anyway. I mean, it's MoH.

I'm hoping it is. The original inexplicably runs like ass (~20 fps) on my PC so I'm hoping they optimized ol' Q3 a bit for PA.

I think the MoH series is excellent. This one I'm particularly looking forward to. 500 meg though. Gunna be a long wait on my connection I can tell ya.... 🙂

The last MOH game wasnt bad. 🙂 But Call of Duty raised the bar, and since the guys who made the last MOH became the guys who made Call of Duty, I have little hope for this new game.

I just played a little bit of the demo... and this game is gorgeous. So far, it lives up to the other MoH's, although they added a lot more to the controls. I don't really know how that handles yet.

How did the game seem to run? My brother would love this, but I wonder how well it would run on his system (XP 2000+, 512mb, GF4 128mb).

I ran it at 1280x1024 with max details. My system is P4 2.8C, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro. Nothing is overclocked and my RAM timings aren't very aggressive.

The game was pretty sluggish for me and the load time for the level was insanely long. I'll probably have to go down to medium detail and maybe 1024.

I just tried lowering only the texture and model details to medium and the game runs great now. My settings are 1280x1024, medium textures, medium models, pixel shader 2.0, decals, etc.

The game is really, really immersive. There's cool stuff all around you in the level. Planes are flying over head, some of the structures are destructable, and all the effects and animations are really cool. It plays more like Call of Duty, I think, which is very good. The AI is great and your squad members' calls and commands are really helpful because there's so much happening that you can get a little lost.... in a good way though.

MoH:AA was one of the best games ever.
I've been looking forward to Pacific Assault for a long time. Although I'm not expecting it to be much different.

I thought that the game played like CoD except with different controls. Each of my squadmates seemed to have things to say, even if they were generic for the game. You can give your squad basic directions using the arrow keys, although I didn't try it in the demo. I wasn't the squad leader so I just followed what everyone else said. Like in CoD, you can AIM down the sight and you can use your gun as a melee weapon. The buttons, however, are reversed: right click for melee, and ALT (I think) for iron sight.

I finally got around to playing it. It looks better than Call of Duty I think, or at least there's much more going on. I don't like the sounds, though the general low quality may just be because it's a demo.

Downloading now. How is the scripting in this one? The overabundance of scripting in CoD turned me off completely, as it felt like you weren't even controlling the events. It's as if the game was always waiting for me to kill that one last guy or get to one spot before it could go on, and I don't like that.

It seems as linear as CoD. I don't mind it -- every FPS is on a rail, but I suppose when you take away the illusion of freedom by using such a mountain of scripted events like CoD and PA do it's a little more obvious.

I don't think it's based on Q3 engine since it uses PS2.0, and Q3 is OpenGL! And Q3's engine is too old for today's games, don't you think?
Can anyone post some some screenshots? There's no way I can download this demo on a Dial-up connection 🙁

It is the Q3 engine, though it's used only for the rendering. It is MohTech - Main Game Engine, Havok - Physics and Q3 - Render. There are screens at the 3DGamers link above.

edit: direct link to screenshots

I installed the demo, and had some initial problems getting it to run correctly. Once in the game, I was getting extreme sound crackling, staticy video, and all kinds of flickering lines running across the screen constantly. Once I turned off AA and AF from within the drivers, it worked fine. Still looks great.

As for the loading in the demo, yes it's long, but I don't think it will be as long in the retail version. It seems as if the screens telling about the controls and the game after set for a specific time, as you'll notice the only time it loads is when the still is switched. I think that once the retail game is out, it will be your standard loading screen, and will take half of the time.

I took a crude screenshot, 1024x768, with no AA or AF. Looks pretty damn good and it's simplest. Pic The pic was taken with the printscreen button, and was while the medic was healing me.

Giddy up! Downloading it now and can't wait to check it out. I've been waiting for this for a long time! 🙂

Just played it and I can tell you it's going to give CoD run for it's money. Then again, CoD is coming out with a new epxnasion soon.. It 's going to be a great couple of months for WWII games

No, just follow the commands from you squadmate. First, turn the gun to your right and shoot down the Jap planes that chase American planes trying to take off. Yhen he'll tell you to shoot down the planes the will try to strafe you coming in low over the trees straight ahead of you. Then you'll have to shoot down dive bombers directly above you.

Yes, because at first it's difficult to tell the Allied and Japanese planes apart. Is the demo supposed to end so abruptly after downing the bombers? If so this must be the worst playtime:file size ratio ever. 540+ megs for ~10 minutes of play.

Yes, its a huge demo for a short playtime . It also eats a ton of ram and still plays like ass on my system at high settings and 12x10 resolution. Granted, I only have 512 of memory and an AthlonXP at 2700, even peeps with A64 are saying sheet about the Sys Requirements. Dont get me wrong it looks like a sick game , but with unoptimised code .
