MadCats are the perfect mech for cheaters, they do all your work for you. The dual PPCs are almost impossible to dodge and they track better and from further out than any other missle while they are the most powerful too. MadCats has the best of everything and it really isn't fair to use them. It is always the MadCats who get the most kills. They are not fun to play and they are not fun to play against if you have more than one on a team.
Madcats weakness is that they have no good high RoF medium finishing weapon.
Exactly. The machine guns are better than not doing any damage at all...but a small quick Mech in close on a Mad Cat (and other slow, heavy Mechs) can pummel the crap out of it. The LRMS can't target in close. The PPC takes too long to heat up while you're getting pasted. An L3 machine gun cluster is actually a fairly decent finishing weapon...but it's not super-quick...which is very important. BTW: The best way to dodge PPC shots is to time a vertical jump *just* right. The shots won't be able to track quick enough and will fly by underneath.
LRMS (longbow or whatever MA calls it) and PPC are nasty for LR and slower firing rate kills, but upgraded pulse lasers mixed in with LRMS is an awesome combo.
L3 pulse lasers are devastating
Madcats overheat a lot faster too if you simply switch between PPCs and LRMS, and you can't target block if you're heated.
Really? Hadn't noticed that...altho I try to keep a fairly close eye on my temp.
Catas don't have that problem and I can jump around the entire time too 🙂 Plus if you ever get legged, you can hop to the next armor stash 😀
Jumping for mobility when your Mech is crippled is the SINGLE-BEST reason to have JJ, IMHO.

Something I hate about JJ is that your heat does not cool off when you use them and the button is so easy to press that when I can't fire, I just try to dodge things by jumping and 10 seconds later, I still can't fire because I am still overheated.

Just what the heck is mech assault?

It looks like some ancient game I played 7 years ago on my brand new voodoo video card.

It is based on the BattleTech properties, same as the MechWarrior titles for PC.
But it's action oriented, rather than simulation oriented. So the pacing is much faster, even on the SP missions.

BTW: the new Official Xbox Magazine lists MechAssault as a DEFINITE demo on next month's disc...for those who haven't tried it yet!
BTW2: I'm assuming it will be a SP only demo.

BattleTech purists were kinda pissed when MechAssault was first released about the heat management being dumbed down (among other things)...but I think the heat management system is just right. It still requires enough attention to be a factor...but not enough to ruin the fast pacing of the game.

I swear, the more I play this game...the MORE I like it! (big shock to everybody, I know 😉)

BTW: Have you tried a different control scheme...specifically the one that maps JJ to the left trigger? More granular control that way, IMHO.

Had to bump this thread to give serious props to my new favorite Mech, the Catapult!

You shoulda seen the finishing move I put on some dude the other night.
We're dukin it out, I had almost no health left, heat building to where I can't fire...
so I JJed and landed on his head!

He went critical.
I ALMOST jetted back up high enough to get away, but didn't have enough altitude.
I got a kill on him and myself.

That's right...I'll say it again for those who missed it:

DEATH FROM ABOVE, BABY!!!

BTW: DAMN I LOVE MECHASSAULT!

I've only been oon "Live" for a couple days. I seem to have the best luck with a Mad Dog. I played an all elemental game tonight, what a hoot!

My player name, oddley enough, is ScottMac.

Who is everyone else? Maybe we can get a team up (Yet another "Team Anandtech") ...I still suck though...getting better ...up to ~20 Kills, 110 deaths ... something like that.

Whaddyall think ? Another team Anandtech?

Geez Geese, I didn't know you was one of them GAMER types....😀
