Mechanics couldn't fix the problem

The problem is that the heat doesn't work in the front vents.

It works on the ground vents however.

What could the problem be?

2001 BMW X5.

got auto climate control? how are the flaps controlled?

on older german cars the flaps were usually controlled by vacuum actuators, a line could be leaking. Not sure if that's how they do it now or not.

You sure there's even supposed to be heat on the face vents? heat == feet

The climate control system on my Accord will not blow heat out of the front vents unless you manually over-ride it. That's just how they programmed it to operate on the automatic settings. Have you tried using the direction controls to force it to blow out of different vents instead of whatever the automatic setting is?

Someone told me that some older BMWs had a little wheel next to the center vents that would allow only warm or cold air to flow depending on what direction it was turned. Not really sure if this is true, sounds made up to me, but look anyway. Is it moving any air at all, or just not warm air?

the whole unit could be shorting out interally when you try and use the face option. normally feet= a selection of default. But look at the sticky on the link. that should be first and then its possible to spend big $$ on the control head.

You gotta pay to play when you have a beamer.
