Not that this is an answer but I suggest you right click on the shortcut to Fraps and where it says Shortcut Key: type "F" and then it will say Ctrl + Alt + F, then all you have to do is press that and fraps will come up, makes it pretty simple.

The best alternative is to use the built-in timedemo facilities of the game. Unfortunately not all of them have this feature.

It can produce unreproducable results and can also negatively affect the performance of the game due to being an external background process.
