in the italian ad, i dont understand how he came out black. weird.

in the chinese ad, i can understand how black becomes white thanks to the detergent. definitely not PC these days.
 
Although I can see why it is perceived as racist, I don't feel that was the intent.

For the record, I do not feel it was racist.

It's for a product called "Coloreria" and the version is nero, so I assume it's a black fabric dye.

I don't speak Italian, but I know nero is black (from looking at black/nero Ferrari's) and I looked up coloreria which means paint shop.

It is pretty offensive. They're basically saying that if you wash your black man enough the color and black features will come off and you'll have an attractive Chinese man (assuming several inches will come off his penis as well). 😉

I can see why this is offensive. I can also see why it is kind of funny but at the same time it is shocking that this even made it to production let alone being aired.

To be honest, I think it's racist, just because it is, and partially because of context, since anti-black and anti-dark skin sentiment is rampant in Asia.

That said, when I saw that ad, I chuckled a bit, although part of that was because I was surprised they'd actually release that ad, as I felt it was racist.

N.B. One of my favourite movies of all time is The Party, which today would be considered horribly racist.

it really is the media that portrays dark skin people in such a negative light that it's inevitable that most people associate blacks with danger, unclean, criminals, animals, savages. and it's really sad 🙁

Uhh, it's not sad when the statistics back it up that minorities (hispanics,blacks) commit more crime per person. Go look at the FBI statistics, stereotypes and racial profiling aren't usually imagined out of thin air. Whether it's a self-fulfilling prophecy or not is another topic, but the facts are the facts.
