:x An assignment for my class was to get the lyrics of a "meaningful song". When I saw that I mean like there was some example of talking about how hunting is dirty and they shouldn't use it, etc. Or Yankee Doodle Dandy of how they didn't look the yankees and they were bad

- Kevin

PS Someone suggested RATM but I don't get it :(

Pretty much looking for lyrics on a song of someone expressing their opinion they think is wrong, like hinting, war etc.

Eminem - White America

Surely hip-hop is never a problem in Harlem
Only in Boston, after it bothered ya fathers of daughters startin' to blossom
Now I'm catchin' the flack from these activists

"I like big butts and I can not lie...." -Sir Mix-A-Lot

He eloquently states his opposing views of the female anatomy, as portrayed in America's mass media.

A very popular one in the music classes around here is Bob Dylan - Born In America.

Metallica's old stuff had some meaning.

Apathy Their Stepping Stone
So Unfeeling
Hidden Deep Animosity
So Deceiving
Through Your Eyes Their Light Burns
Hoping to Find
Inquisition Sinking You
With Prying Minds

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

So you think you can tell
heaven from hell?
Blue skys from pain?
Can you tell a green field
from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade
your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Warm air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, How I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl,
year after year.
Running over the same old ground,
what have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Lyrics might be a little off as they are from memory.

Late for the Sky - Jackson Browne

The words had all been spoken
And somehow the feeling still wasn't right
And still we continued on through the night
Tracing our steps from the beginning
Until they vanished into the air
Trying to understand how our lives had led us there
Looking hard into your eyes
The was nobody I'd ever known
Such an empty surprise to feel so alone
Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be
Awake again, I can't pretend, and I know I'm alone
And close to the end of the feeling we've known
How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I been dreaming I could make it right
If I closed my eyes and tried with all my might
To be the one you need
Awake again, I can't pretend, and I know I'm alone
And close to the end of the feeling we've known
How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been driftin alone through the night
How long have I been running for that morning flight
Through the whispered promises and the changing light
Of the bed where we both lie
Late for the sky

I'd suggest something like November Rain by G&R for ya there, I really seem to like that one as well as thier other stuff. Not alll their songs are meaningful, but some of the earlier ones from their album Use Your Illusion are pretty good. But if you want something a little less sophisticated, go for Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls :p

Hmm, just about anything off the And Justice For All... cd by Metallica.

Example: A little snippet from Eye Of The Beholder

Do You See What I See?
Truth Is an Offence
You Silence for Your Confidence
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Doors Are Slamming Shut
Limit Your Imagination, Keep You Where They must
Do You Feel What I Feel?
Bittering Distress
Who Decides What You Express
Do You Take What I Take?
Endurance Is the Word
Moving Back Instead of Forward Seems to Me Absurd

Doesn't Matter What You See?
Or into it What You Read
You Can Do it Your Own Way
If It's Done Just How I Say

Independence Limited
Freedom of Choice
Choice Is Mad for You My Friend
Freedom of Speech
Speech Is Words That They Will Bend
Freedom with Their Exception

I'm lying alone with my head on the phone
Thinking of you till it hurts
I know you hurt too but what else can we do
Tormented and torn apart
I wish I could carry your smile and my heart
For times when my life feels so low
It would make me believe what tomorrow could bring
When today doesn't really know, doesn't really know

Preface: google is awesome. 1st or second hits on each.
Ian Moore -
Harlem
Steppenwolf - Monster - Suicide - America
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
If you hate the teacher, try Heaven on Their Minds
Aerosmith - Janie's Got a Gun,
Uncle Salty
Black Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots
EL&P - Lucky Man
Harry Chapin - Cats in the Cradle (should need no linking for anyone)
Pink Floyd - The Post War Dream, Not Now John, Two Suns in the Sunset
Queen - Good Company
Queensryche - One More Time
Steppenwolf - Snowblind Friend
...and so I reach the end of my playlist and ideas.

Another vote for a Metallica song here.

Good picks so far.

Maybe Blackened -

Blackened Is the End
Winter it Will Send
Throwing All You See
Into Obscurity

Death of Mother Earth
Never a Rebirth
Evolution's End
Never Will it Mend

Never

(Chorus)
Fire
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead
Blackened Is the End
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead
Color Our World Blackened

Blistering of Earth
Terminate its Worth
Deadly Nicotine
Kills What Might Have Been

Callous Frigid Chill
Nothing Left to Kill
Never Seen Before
Breathing Nevermore

Never

Fire
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead
Blackened Is the End
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead
Color Our World Blackened

Blackened

Opposition...Contradiction...Premonition...Compromise
Agitation...Violation...Mutilation...Planet Dies
Darkest Color
Blistered Earth
True Death of Life
Termination....Expiration...Cancellation...Human Race
Expectation...Liberation...Population...Lay to Waste
See Our Mother
Put to Death
See Our Mother Die

Smouldering Decay
Take Her Breath Away
Millions of Our Years
In Minutes Disappears

Darkening in Vain
Decadence Remains
All Is Said and Done
Never Is the Sun

Never

Fire
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead
Blackened Is the End
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead
Fire
Is the Outcome of Hypocrisy
Darkest Potency
In the Exit of Humanity
Color Our World Blackened

Blackened

:D
