Got one from Lowes, a Masterbuilt. Making a brisket and some babyback ribs tomorrow.

The smoke comes from a heated pan filled with wood chips. They're just brought up to smoking temp by electricity instead of coals or propane.

The great advantage of electric is that you can get a consistent temp, which is almost impossible any other way unless you tend things constantly. I know guys who like to smoke a big brisket for more than a dozen hours and they stay up all night to do it. I'd rather pass myself.
