ok, so in case you forget, im tryin to build a Computer to basically just play High Quality DIVX (DVD-Ripped) Movies. Here's my specs again:

AMD k62-500
512MB SDRAM
5gb HD
40X SCSI CD-Rom
12X DVD Rom
Matrox G450 16mb AGP Dual-Head
NOW running Windows2000 Pro

Ok, so i HAD been running XP Pro, but per suggestions i formatted and went to 2k Pro, which does run faster, but i'm still having issues with my high quality DIVX movies. I'm beginning to think it's my Graphics Card. Would i be better off just getting some cheap video card that has TV-Out? (like say a TNT2 or somethin) Anybody think it's NOT the graphics card? Any other ways to fix it?

Btw, the programs i've been using to play the movies are, WMP 6.4, Power DVD 4, PLAYA, Power DIVX, and BS Player, none are perfect. Suggestions to this as well?

It would help to know what sort of problems you are having!!!

A K6-2 500 is fairly close to the minimum spec for playing divXs. The video card should be fine. You really don't need 512MB of ram though.

it plays really choppy, and if it does play smooth, the audio is ahead of the video by a second or two. i've played the movies on my XP 1800+ & it works fine.

is windows98 better to handle divx?

The Matrox cards have problems playing some DivX movies, it has something to do with if the videos are above a certain resolution and the heights not evently divisible by 32, then the video cards Overlay features are not used, and videos play choppy.

Or somethign like that, not entirely sure, but remember hearing something to that effect, and I know I get choppy video on certain videos with my Matrox G400 Dualhead also.

However, a K6-2 is also VERY close to min specs for high quality DivX files.

I would say try a different vid card, a cheap ATI card should be best (better DVD playback support and WAY better TV-out than TNT2 cards) like an ATI Rage or something, and if its not that, new CPU and mobo.

definitely try the win98 se. and don't forget to update all the drivers. especially the inf for mobo. if you have another system move the 256meg to it. you don't need a 512meg system to play divxs.

wow, i never even considered it could be the sound card. i'll try swappin that out later today i guess.

Audio Acceleration:

Start / Settings / Control Panel / Sounds and Multimedia / Sound Playback 'Advanced' Button / Performance

Post if that works, I'd be interesting in knowing too.

for the record, WinampMC didn't work, nor did: PowerDVD, the Playa 2, WMP 6.4....SOOOOO,..what are some other players out there??? What are the best. I already know of PowerDIVX, anyone know anyone else (i'm sure an even better player than BS PLayer would play them flawlessly)
