MD player VS MP3 player

my friend is plannin on getting either one and he doesnt know what to do
i was wondering if any1 could give my friend some advice

the md player is a sony mz-r55, recordable
the mp3 player is Diamond Rio 300, including an extra 64mb~

Both are kinda old but if I were him I'd go MD because the Rio 300 is a first gen and was a bit low volumewise (even all the way up). Is it 32+64 megs? Well I like my mp3's ecoded and played back at 192 and so mem is always an issue. The R55 is nice but many new units are smaller and more battery efficient.

i think that the md is more expensive than a rio. And also i think that that md may use sonys "check in check out" transfer software which allows u to copy a song 3x only to the player. The md looks nicer than the rio but i dont think that the amount of memory in an md is 64mb...

If i were him, i would get a rio 600, 128 mb for about $189.
Or better yet rio volt for $99.

is he getting it for free?

if he is, then go for the md, but if he has to buy, then go for something of higher end for the mp3 player, he'll be more happier than that.

Also, I believe you transfer to the Rio 300 via parallel... a bit slow. And its firmware is not upgradeable.

If he is planning on putting only mp3's on it. Get an mp3 player. If he plans to put mp3's and tracks from cd's, get a MiniDisk player.

The R55 is not a netMD if you are talking about that and so no software is required. Just an Optical Out or a regular audio out. It is about 3 years old I think...

Also, it depends on what he is going to use it for. For jogs in the morning or whenever where he wants to compile a list quick go Rio300. MD records in realtime which means 74 min of music is 74 minutes spent recording. Hope this helps.

I have that MD player, got it almost 3 yrs ago. It kicks ass, if you have a comp with optical out, you keepthe music digital. Sound is great provided you buy better earphones than the included ones. And for $3 per 74 mins disk, you don't have to erase and rewrite all the time. The only disadvantage I see is short battery life on the internal battery (~4 hrs), goes up to 12 hrs if you use the external battery but it makes it bulkier.

All in all, even after 3 yrs I still love my MD
