HI ,
I need some advice on MD..... recently i bought a MD player with no pclink optical cable included so ..i was wonder is it a big difference between optical and non optical cable ? thanks
 
You'll need the PCLink if you want to record in MDLP. If not, then you should be fine with just a regular stereo cable for recording 74 minute MDs. You should only get the PCLink if your MD can support MDLP...it's pretty cool because you can record up to 4 hours with that. Hope this helps.
 
you need the pclink to do MDLP? hrm.. i was unaware of that.. are you sure? or do you just need to use the optical part to get MDLP to work? These pclinks are nothing more than mini soundcards that use an optical interface really.. i don't see why you need one to get MDLP.
 
I'm not sure because I don't have an MD that supports MDLP, but my friend does, and he couldn't get MDLP songs until he plugged the PCLink in. I remember because he was telling me that he couldn't get the PCLink to work, so he'll just have to settle for 74 minute MDs until he could get it working again.
 
no you must definitly dont need a pclink to record in mdlp. its just a feature that you can select in a menu or something, no pclink or anything special required.
 
Well ..there are 2 types of pclink ...one is optical another type is just normal with no optical. Is there a sound quality difference betweeen optical and non optical pclink ?
 
the optical one will be better, as the transfer will be all digital.
example:

digital mp3, cd, whatever > optical transport (digital) > MD recorder (digital). the data is all digital throught out the whole process

digita mp3, etc > analog calbe (passes through digital-analog convertor) > MD (records in digital, so it must covert analog to digital)

the digital way is more straightforward and will give you better sound quality.
 
Does anyone know how fast can you send songs from your computer to the MD player using PC link? I'm debating whether to get the new Net MD player which can send at 32x. TIA
 
My another question about MD .... why everytimes i recorded a song by using stereo recording(not mono) through pclink will cause one of my headphone no sound ? But if i recorded in mono, will dont have this problem.
 
no idea about the audio missing...

but NetMD will do 4x standard, 16x LP2, and 32X LP4.. so that 32x is rather useless... lp4 i've heard is just for voice mainly. no good for music. LP2 seems to be very acceptable unless you're an audiophile w/ good headphones.
