Ok, half the battle in getting certed in stuff (IMO) is finding good books and/or good classes. I don't really want to waste money on classes for 'lower level' stuff, so I'm going the book route for the MCSE. So... what books have you guys used and which are the best? I like what prepares you well for the test, leaves out the piddly sh!t, explains things well and perhaps in different ways, and has good practice questions. Thanks for the help!
 
I've got a study guide for Win2k server (70-215 exam) from Syngress/Osborne. ISBN 0-07-212386-9
Though I'm still studying for it and haven't taken the exam, it seems a pretty decent study guide, which explains things clearly.
I ordered it from bookpool.com w/ a much lower price than bookstores.

Why don't you go to a local bookstore and compare the ones they have??

Also, just a precaution, I've heard from people that Microsoft is making the exams harder in order to raise the standard and level of the MCSE certificates so besides the books you'll need a machine and network to practice the exercises.
 
I think the best Win2k book around is Mark Minasis. Very comprehensive, I used that and a series of exam cram (crap). I always used to for reference when those thing books leave out certain details. The MS help is also very good. Personally I'd pick up a few transcender tests if you feel like investing the $. I tried a transcender test and it was VERY similiar to the MS test (I think they steal directly off their question pool and just renamed things).

Anyway a small lan would also be nice. I finished in MCSE in 7 weeks self study and fiddling. This is between school vacations and lite weeks. Good luck.
 
Lol, I forgot the book title. It is Mastering Windows 2000 Server. Try to get a recent edition (maybe 4th now)
 
Thanks Jayllo. I actually have the transcenders. A guy I know is letting me borrow some eprint of the books and transcenders for 2k.

😀 I may still look into that book you recommended though if I decide they suck. Plus, I really hate eprint for studying things. And the small LAN is up. 😎
