MCP Cert - worth it?

I am part of the MIS Association at the University I go to and there is going to be a MCP class offered free to our members. I'd have to pay to take the test and put in the time to study and prepare but it sounds like it is worth it.

Has anyone gone through the whole process? If so could someone give me a rough idea of what to expect? Is it worth my time, in other words do employers look for it?!?

Thanks!

Take any free training that you can get. The test is optional, but I personally would take it if the class was halfway decent. Its hard to find motivation when you have to completely study on your own.

Which MCP test are they training for? The Microsoft certifications are becoming more and more common as requirements for even entry level positions.

Honestly not 100% sure, just found out about it tonight. The books they are telling us to get are for XP Professional.

Just the XP OS test. It'd be worth it just to have as a resume padder if anything. Even if you don't go take the test, it'd be worth it to learn the finer points of Group Policies and such.

definitely take the test. it makes you more marketable for future jobs.

people ask for that stuff on resumes all the time.

worse case scenario is you have another line of text on your resume, which isnt a bad thing.

mcp doesn't really get you anything, but it doesn't hurt either

i know, i'm A+, MCP, MCSE, and OCP

i'm 1 semester away from my Computer Science degree, and will have completed 9 credits of my masters in computer science

So many ppl have certs - they are essentially 'expected' - so yes you should.

I've got the XP OS MCP, but the rest of my certs are comptia - A+. Server+, etc. . .
