Seems odd and 18" would only be 91 db efficiency, is that normal?

Efficiency is a tradeoff between low distortion, and low frequency response.
It is not related to cone size. 91db is reasonably efficient.

A better question is what does a frequency response of "20Hz~500Hz" mean.
Is it +- 1db, 3db, 10db, or 100db? Without knowing, it is meaningless.

In addition, you might ask what the distortion is, what frequency and power level it is specified at. It isn't mentioned at all. Woofers often have distortion well over 1% unless they have servo feedback.

Also, you might ask what is the maximum spl, and at what frequency and distortion.

I bought a cheap kenwood 6" car speaker that claimed a frequency response of 35hz-22000hz. What does it mean - nothing.

It's actually efficiency, small box size (for low frequency) and maximum output. You can pick 2 of the 3, but never, ever 3. It's physics.

My bad. You are of course correct.
distortion is mainly a function of excursion and motor linearity.

They look the same as the Pyle pasw18. They are made for PA applications, so think loud, but not the greatest sound quality. Not really that great for a home stereo system. We have a set of these along with two full range PYle PA speakers for our band. These subs cover the low end and will shake the house if turned up. The cabinets are rather weak and needed to be reinforced, otherwise they rattle. We picked up all 4 of our speakers for ~$125 ea with free shipping through amazon. Btw, we run them on the same Behringer amp that someone else listed in hot deals a few days ago.

It is curious that these weigh only 61 lbs. A well made box of these dimensions should be heavier, as should the speaker. This is clearly a PA subwoofer, not a high fidelity woofer.

For the price, these are a great way to start building your own PA system. At that weight they are made of 1/2" particleboard...or maybe plywood if you're lucky. Freq response is probably more like 50Hz and up with a steep rolloff below 50Hz. Bascially, $150/ea shipped. You'd be hard pressed to build a sub (complete with carpet, handles, pole mount etc) for that price.

Four of these (two per channel) on the Behringer EP4000 (another HD thread) and you've got serious bass for any party below 300 people. You'll need some mains too, of course...put them on another EP4000. :D

Efficiency at any given frequency is directly related to cone size, same as all the other related factors are to tuning etc. I was looking at a pro sound 18 last night thats 98 db/w McCauley 6256.
