Decent is how people define it.
I'm making about $43K this year at a relativeky low volummn store.
A buddy of mine I know is making more than $50K at a busier store.
Considering that Florida do not have a state income tax, its pretty decent money.
I way I see it, $43K is about the same as $50K in a state that has state income tax.

Being a single guy, no girlfriend, $43K is more than enough for me(although I've been lousy at managing my money)
 
Arguing with the dictionary. Someone send McD's a notice that lexicographers dont CREATE words, they merely index words that already exist.

Seems analogous to fighting a war against terrorism, eh? Futilely fighting against ideals is fun for everyone...

Small towns are small towns, and therefore have lower costs of living. Doesn't matter where in the country they are.
 
I'll try to explain the McDonalds franchise thing.

It takes more than money to be a franchise of McDonalds.
You have to go through classes,(about 6-7) and then go through an interview process to see if you are even qualified to have your own franchise.

As a new owner, you'll probably get 2 stores to start...either 2 new stores or existing stores own by the Corp.
The way you acquire new stores is by showing McDonalds that you're provinding the best QSC&V to the customers.
The Corp. usually decide on where to put new stores.
Once they do that, they will ask certain franchisee if they want the store or not.
If NO, then they ask the next franchisee.....if all refuse, then they keep it to run as their own.
However, it is never wise to turn down a store becuase if you do, they might not ask you the next time.

So once you pay to start-up fee, the monthly fee you paid to the Corp. is:
1) the advertising fee
2) rent/franchise fee.

These 2 fees are about 20% of your net sales.(The Corp. charges you based on your monthly net sales).

So as a franchise owner, you pretty much control how profitable your stores are.
You still have to follow to pretty strict guildline set forth by Mcdonalds.
In FACT, all Franchises have this "field consultant" that reports to the Corp.
He/she regularly check up on us to make sure we are up to McDonalds stadards.
McDonalds have the strictist guildline among all fast-food franchises which explains why they have been successful for so many years.

Don't you also have to buy all your food, bags, cups, straws, etc. from Mc Donalds?

 
All of McDonalds buy their stuff from 1 supplier, Martin-Brower.
They provide roughly 95% of all our food/paper/supplies.

Although I search the net and Martin Brower only supplies to 44% of all McDonalds.
I wonder what all the other McDonalds use as their suppliers.

I can tell you for a FACT that advancement is quite easy at McDonalds.
I can tell you many people I've met(with me working at McDonalds) started as a crew person and in 2-3 yrs have become store managers.
I mean with no education, you can make pretty decent money.

I can't speak for other fast foods but we are always looking to promote people who we think are worth while.
If you can stand the enviroment(as in dealing with alot of lowlife customers), you can easily move up the rank.

Don't make fun of someone just because they decides not to get an education.
Dave Thomas dropped out of high school.
Alot of people are very educated because they learn it on the job instead of sitting in the damm class room wasting their life away.

Personally I think most people waste their time and money graduating from college and still do nothing.
Now I still think educaion is important but its not for everyone.

I did graduated from college with an accouting degree and I didn't do sh!t with it.
To be honest with you I didn't learn crap in college except on how to have a good time and how to pass classes.
I learned more from my 1.5 yrs at McDonalds on how to run a business than I would have ever at school.

What I'm saying is that while education is important....it doesn't prepare you for sh!t in the real world.

Hey put down the burger flipper. You are probably an exception, but the average intellect of the McDonald's employee is somewhere between a Chihuahua and a lump of charcoal. Note, this was not the case when I was working there. Also, the only ones that seem to be good at it don't speak English that well.

I've got a question for you, why would McD's put someone that barely spoke English on the front line? It's all fine and dandy if you order things straight off the menu, but if you want to add something or have them leave something off; it is very frustrating for those that don't speak Spanish. The last time in I ordered in Spanish and it was much faster plus my order for once was right. This should not be the case.

I have a similar experience at a Burger king somewhere in the midwest. I don't remember if it was Nebraska or Kansas. I was driving back to Virginia. Off the interstate, in a state where you do not expect to see any Hispanic population.

The menu was in freaking Spanish, and I had a hard time asking if they still have silver dollar pancakes.
