... for an international collect-call. I knew it would be expensive, but I've never seen such thievery.

They charged me for 3 minutes. Probably their minimum charge, since I just told my wife the plane was 9 hours late and I would miss the connecting flight in Chicago.

Been cheaper just to nail yourself in a freight box, mail yourself then tell her in person.

think of it this way. It only cost you 28 dollars to save 9 hours of your wife's time and for her not to kill you for not calling. Sounds like a deal to me.

Is MCI your regular long distance provider? If so, change. If they ask why, tell them exactly why. You don't like getting done up the a$$.

I use AT&T, and I am sure I will never use MCI. I just need to find a cheap way of calling back to the US from abroad.

Sounds like they charged you "casual" rates. That's what they charge people who use their network but don't have an account. IIRC from my short stay at BellSouth, most carriers' casual rates are about $8 or $9. So if you do have a calling card or whatever with them, you should call and complain. If it's wrong, they should give you an adjustment.
