ok so i just installed windows mce2004 on my htpc and started recording like the madness. i record using the worst quaility and they files still end up being about 2-3 gb per hour. i REALLY need to encode this and shrink this number down.

i was wondering if anyone knew how to encode these files. mce records tv to a ".dvr-ms" file, which im assuming as a special file format ms made. i tried using various other encoding progs to compress but none will compress this file format. does anyone know of any program or method to either convert them to dix (or equivalent size) or convert it to a format that can then be converted to divx?

yeah yeah... i know... some of you are gonna tell me to delete some files and make space... well i really like two certain series and they are on twice a day. i want to save them but eventualy space will deplete. please... if you have any solutions to my problem feel free to pm or email me.

dvr-ms is just microsofts version of mpeg2 files. sonic mydvd can read and convert them to standard mpeg files. here's an interesting topic too for you to look at also.
