MCE

I currently have windows XP Pro. I was planning on upgrading to the 2005 MCE. Is it worth it? Can I just upgrade from Pro or do I have to do a clean installation? Does this OS have a problem with games? Any lockup problems? Any good articles or information someone may want to share with me please do so.

Thanks in advance...

Win MCE 2005 is essentially Win XP Pro with the Media Center Application installed.

The main difference between the two is that you can't have MCE join a windows domain after the initial install. (though you can when you first set the box up)

You won't find any compatability problems between the two. There is no "upgrade" option in the install process, so, you will need to re-install your apps afterwards. But, if you are currently running XP Pro, I really don't see any benefit of going to MCE 2005 unless you have a compatible TV Tuner card to take advantage of the Media Center App.

It depends on what he wants to do. If he's going do nothing more than he currently runs, then he doesn't need it. But, If he wants a HTPC, then it is.

I've got both XP pro and MCE 2005 installed and I can't notice any real differences between the two. I really like the Media Center and I think it's worth it if you're considering having a htpc.
