Fact of the matter is 95% of people who eat at McD's could give a s**t about nutritional info. Maybe I want my food cooked in oil high in trans fat if you don't don't eat it. We are becoming a freaking nanny nation.
People are obviously following your advice. McD's recognized this and is now taking steps to make their menu more health-friendly so it can keep up business.

I wish McD's was no longer allowed to put crack in their fries... :{ They seem to be a slightly healthier choice relative to Wendy's or BK for an equivalent meal, but it's still a far cry from 'healthy'. McD's got rid of the 'Super Size' designation, at least here. Now you have to order small, medium, or large size meals, where large size is the same as their previous 'Super Size' with a slightly more PC name. We also have a regional special here - the 'Hugo', or 'Diabetes Express' as I like to call it - an 88 ounce soft drink for $0.89.

That pretty much sums up my opinion of SSM. It wasn't anything but a stunt. There was nothing in that movie that everyone didn't know already. Just like his shows about prison and minimum wage, he's pretty much useless. He got a lot of attention in the media, because his gimmicks are the kind of crap that can fill up time on talk shows and infotainment shows, not to mention internet forums where everytime someone mentions a fast food place, references are made to SSM as though nobody knew french fries were fattening until SSM.

Which is why I don't associate any positive changes in people's awareness of healthy diet choices with that film.

You seem to lack the ability to view people outside of your bubble.

"It was a coincidence"
"People knew already"
"Everyone knew this already"

Notice a trend? You are engrossed in yourself which renders your contribution to the topic useless.

As someone already stated McDonalds is a PR giant. They are succesfull because of a clown, some toys and a catchy song when you are young. Than you are an adult who needs something quick and mcdonalds offers it, plus you are familliar with them. (Due to your experience as a child).

With this in mind, you can relate this to public relations and see that McDonalds lives and dies with that. Every incident of bad PR with McDonalds has been immediatly (instantly) met with a change by corporate to restore faith in the brand. It works. People even now say things such as

"Oh, they were bad, but now they offer (insert healthy option here)"
"I always ate there fries but since they started offering (insert option here) than I have that all the time"

Did people know it is bad for you? Yes, of course they did. So what?

People know that smoking will eventually kill them, will cause damage to there lungs and athetlic ability. People have the choice to do something else, yet millions upon millions continue to smoke. Why is that?

People continue to do things until it affects them, or they are smacked in the face with reality. Oh you smoked for 20 years, and now just watched your mom die a painfull death of lung cancer? I bet your chances of quitting just went up. This video served as that catalyst for a majority of people. They knew it was bad, but wow they didn't know it was this bad.

The major, major kick though was this.

He was eating there most popular meals, the meals that the average american joe was eating he was downing on the movie. People related to this because he was eating what they were eating. You think this would have been nearly successfull if all he did was go in and eat 5 servings of fries every meal? Hell no, the fact that he ate what Mr and Mrs Smith eat and give lil Timmy for lunch was what hit home.

So yes, the points you make are valid, but you need to think outside the box.

2 egg mcmuffins and coffee for breakfast ~ 600 calories
Extra value meal with diet soda for lunch ~1200 calories
2 mcchickens and diet soda for dinner ~900 calories

2700 calories. A 200lb guy will LOSE weight if he only eats 2700 calories.

Sperlock went out his way to eat astronomically fatty stuff on his documentary.

There is a guy who eats big macs every day who is stick thin who has a website, but I can't remember it.

A calorie is not a calorie. Saying calories in versus calories out completely ignores the effects of certain macronutrients on hunger, energy levels, thermogenics, muscle composistion.

Aside from the little bit of chicken and eggs in those products, which are probably breaded or full of testosterone lowering soy, it lacks nutrition.

It isn't just about getting fat as in an expanding waistline, it's also about clogging your colon and your arteries.

The biggest issue with fast foods vs healthy foods in my opinion is cost and time. Lets face it...how many people have the time to go to the grocery and buy, then make it....then EAT it for that matter. Ok lets say you don't have the time...you could go to a number of healthier places (subway for example could be healthy without options and at $2.50 a sandwich is damn good deal) but they are small in number compared to the fast food giants of today. Count how many more McDs there are as opposed to subways or fresh choice or any number of other better places that you could eat and I'm only talking about working adults with a steady income here. What about kids who have low amounts of money to spend? Parents who are working all the time and don't have time to cook food? Sure they could tell them not to go to McDs but they sure as hell will. Why? Because its damn cheap...anyone been listening to those radio commercials about McDs? "What should I do dollar menu" They basicly tell you to save your money and buy something useful so fill your stomach cheaper with us...and people do it of course. Would you rather eat 30 mcchickens and score an awsome rig or eat healthy and live with a piss poor P3...Too many factors to justify telling people they just shouldn't eat mcdonalds or any other fast food place. Its just not that simple.

On a minor note...I was looking through storage the other day and I found my old old lego chest that I haven't seen since I was 11 or so...guess what I found.

A McDonalds french fry...still the same shade of golden brown it was since it was cooked.

Digusting, isn't it?

Buying groceries takes like 1 hour a week, and making food takes 2-20 minutes. Just going out to eat takes 30 minutes each time. So I don't understand the time factor.

This is why drive throughs were invented and why mcD's food is easy to eat while driving a car. Convienience (sp?) is the key to America.

Yeah with a little planning you can prepare a weeks's worth of lunches in an hour. I myself usually take leftovers, or go to the subway next door to my shop. But I'm a vegetarian so all my eating has be planned. It would be so much easier to hit the drive through at McD's on the way to work everyday, but I wouldn't be worth my wieght in soy as a vegetarian.

My dad just recently earlier this year died of a tragic heart attack at age 70 he said at the time he was still with us was caused in part by eating so many fast food french fries loaded with the worst possible fats for a human heart to be exposed to long term.

He was a cop eating on the road out of a squad car for 34 years. Add the stress of the job to all the hydrogenated grease and high cholesterol hamburgers and it's a fairly lethal combo.

This is what I'm talking about. Time/cost ratio doesn't seem enough for people to eat healthy when they can just drive into any fast food place and pick up some quick burgers/fries on the way to work/school/anywhere. Sure you can pack lunches...but you still have to go to the store and for many people they don't have the time or don't want to make time. Look at our nations schools for crying out loud, have you SEEN their food?! Its like a heart attack in a bun smothered in nacho cheese and yeah when I was in high school I ate that crap non-stop. Why? Because it was easy to get to and cheap. Now I eat fast food once or twice a week..normally I cook my own food or go to subway but not everyone changes their eating habbits after high school.
