Add a few flavorings, preservatives, or anything else to the beef and there's still nothing preventing you from calling it 100% beef. I've long been under the impression (but haven't looked for a source) that their hamburgers had extra flavoring added to ensure this consistency.

Also, in regard to they use waste products of the cow - of course not! Waste products implies that they aren't used. As soon as they're used, they're not really waste, now are they? The butchers around here scrape every bit of meat that they can off the cattle - I recall cheek meat being one of the places they get more meat from. And, you just "might" purchase that at a store in the form of hamburg.

Oil is fat amigo :) Maybe not animal fat as you were thinking. PAM cooking spray is made from Olive oil according to the makers (I use a Misto sprayer).

Beef cheeks are very good when prepared right. In fact a lot of cheeks are very good, often lean and tasty. Halibut cheeks are awesome, Tuna cheeks are one of the most prized/expensive cuts.

Waste/By-products are usually fat/connective tissue trimmings and organs. Organs are not usually not preferred since they spoil/decay/disease very quickly and of course can be just downright unusual to most people.

I'd also agree with you that "flavorings" and such are added for consistency. Still, remember though, the Mcburger you ate in CA, probably came from the same place as the Mcburger you ate in NY and if not, at least processed and prepared in exactly the same way. So even if they didn't add anything, it's not surprising they taste exactly the same. We're not talking local produce here.

Obviously, when you buy a hamburger from mcdonalds it isn't realy 100% beef- it includes a bun, mustard, ketchup, a slice of pickle, etc. So I guess what they mean is they use *some* 100% beef in every burger. Which is kind of a useless thing to say.

Just my observation for the morning.

you can't be that dumb, can you?

Apparently he can.

100% moran.

moran is also 100% beef

"A sandwich is just a sandwich, but Manwich is lips and assholes!"

All "100% beef" means is that 100% of the patty is comprised of something that came from a cow. Draw from that what you will.

My point about the PAM cooking spray is that yes, it's pure fat. But, they're allowed to advertise it as having no fat (because the amount used when their directions are followed doesn't meet the threshold at which they have to report it as fat.) As far as the flavor - not all cows taste alike. There's some variation in taste. Then again, the beef from many cows is blended together to also minimize this effect.

Then it wouldn't be pure beef if it's got filler in it. Boy, this guy is as dumb as the OP. Oh, wait. He is the OP.

My point was that the burger is not 100% beef. Unless the bun, ketchup, onions, etc are made out of beef. It's a false claim. The patty could be made out of a mixture of filler and 100% pure beef, and McDonalds could still claim it contains 100% pure beef. In that case it would contain 100% pure beef, plus some other fillers.

edit-
Look at the topic title. "we use 100% pure beef in every burger". If McDonalds takes 100% pure beef, adds filler, makes hamburgers, they certainly do use 100% pure beef to make the burger. Yet they still used fillers too.

I don't have anything against McDonalds, I was just pointing out terrible wording on their advertising. Can I understand what they probably meant? Sure, but I'll still make fun of them in this thread.

LOLOL please stop explaing yourself.

Cow... milkshake... I'm sure they blend it to a degree. Also probably has sampling done to get %'s of muscle, fat, whatever to meet consistency tolerances.

This thread was an experiment.

I see four types of responders.

1- Those who take the advertisement for what it is, don't question it, don't analyze it, and automatically enter full defense mode when they think that McDonalds is being made fun of. I'd swear some of you have stock invested in McDonalds based on your defensive posts.

2- Those who take the other extreme, assume that the advertisement is simply a lie, or a scam based on "100% beef" being the name of a grade F meat producer, etc.

3- Those who think the thread is such a huge waste of time that they just had to take even more time to post calling me an idiot. I love you guys, post more :)

4- A few people who "got" it. Your posts have been very entertaining.

So, in conclusion, you thought you were being funny, witty, or sophisticated by pointing out a perceived inconsistency in the McDonald's advertising, but, after being thoroughly pwned by ATOT, now are trying to save your ass by declaring the thread was an experiment?

Come on, there's a sucker born every minute, but most people aren't that dumb.
