McDonalds or Temp. Work Service?

So, I am sure I can get a job at McDonalds as I know a manager and he told me he put my app in front of everyone else.

But before he told me that I applied for a Temp Work Agency. I am unsure of what type of work I will get.

What path would you choose?

temping can be hit or miss... you can get some nice office experience and resume filler or you can get stuck in the back of a warehouse.

but it probably pays better than McD's in any event.

Applying assures nothing. Assuming you're background is similar to mind (and it must be if you're considering Mcdonalds), take the sure thing now. Especially if the manager knows your situation and expects you to bail when you find something better, that way no hurt feelings if you quit right after he hooked you up.

After working at McDonald's I would NEVER work fast food again.
That is possibly the most soul crushing job I can think of.

McDonalds was easily the worst job I've ever had. The carwash was better, building retaining walls was better, being the human optical scanner was better, chopping up formaldehyde-soaked mud tubes into formaldehyde-soaked mud cubes (don't ask) was better, paper route was better, digging holes was better, selling door to door was better, being a backup monkey was better. At McDs I ended up washing dishes mostly as apparently my total disgust for the customers leaked through my plastic, solicitous McSmile and I was one of few employees who actually got the dishes clean.

things like the trays the pre-made patties are stored in... i worked there in like 97, they had plenty of dishes at the time.

Depends. Here in Hawaii, McD's job would come with health care and other benefits a temp job would not immediately (or if ever) offer.

Pans, trays, utensils, racks, machine parts, knives (yes they trust their most trustworthy trusted McPloyees with knives), etc.

i didnt mind the short time worked at McDonalds in 91-92.

now if you want to work there you need to speak spanish. seems everyone in the grill section is a immigrant.

Maybe try both PT initially?

McD's could be decent if you are at a good location with good management, & usually if you want, you can move up in a hurry.

Temp work can be good & bad...totally depends on what places you end up at.

Overall temping sux IMO until you find a good company thru there & get hired.
That's definitely good then.

Temp job without a doubt. It may lead to better opportunities and will increase your business contacts. Also, at McD's you would have to deal with punk ass teenagers on both sides of the counter.

I've been signed up with lots of temp agencies... they never got me anything except 1 day or 1 week assignments. Half the time, I had nothing. Take McDonalds for steady (albeit low) income, but keep looking for something better.

That's what I'm wondering. Food service sucks for sure, but I think McDonalds takes care of it's employees. You're young so you probably won't need it, but insurance is a valuable addition to your pay. Hell, I'd have probably made more money, and still have a job if I got into McDonalds, and stuck with it the same time I started surveying.

Temp in an office environment. Pretty good chance at a casual 9-5 grind while building customer service skills.

McDonalds is ok. Can learn customer service, the value of sticking it out, and some discount food.

I had a roomate who worked as a temp. He was waiting for work half the time.
I voted McDonald's. It would be better if you were up front then cooking. And you get a chance to meet teenage girls.
