*head asplodes* wait, wut? something sensible from the republican party, no less the senate majority leader? i just can't even.... i actually agree with the turtle on something.

maybe all this trump nonsense has them all experiencing come-to-jesus moments or otherwise knocking some sense into them.

unless there are some evil riders associated with this bill, it's hard to see a downside.

Looks like it's agricultural hemp only, for a second there I thought world was turning upon its head.

At first I thought April Fool's, but he seeks to free up hemp as an agricultural product-rope making and the such. That sort of hemp has next to no THC in it.

Just look at this fucking hippie; is anyone even surprised?

Feral hemp grows wild all over Kentucky & other parts of the midwest despite efforts to eradicate it.

It's a bullshit move by McConnell, anyway, given that China & Eastern Europe produce hemp at a fraction of the cost in America & that there aren't many facilities to process it in this country, either, other than to make it into silage.

Commercial hemp farming can def screw up the gene pool of good ganja, however. Maybe that's the whole point.

This is rope weed. Not dope weed. And is only illegal because....reasons?

I don't know how valid this claim is, but one of the prevailing claims was that William Randolph Hearst lobbied to have hemp restricted due to it's competitiveness with paper products, of which he owned a substantial stake. Linking it to the wacky qualities of the female plant, the claim being entirely illegitimate, of course, only helped the argument that all of it should be banned.

But that could be one of those crazy stoner conspiracies that always sounded great when you are totally baked.

To further Dain's comment, I've heard because it was too easy to hide the good stuff in with the industrial. It made it too hard to patrol and enforce .

Republicans starting to get with the program, and only 60+ years late? Only hemp though, can't have Sessions gettin frothy now can we?

Way to go Turtle. This totally makes up for how you flipped off American voters by stealing a USSC seat, how you didn't support Obama trying to stand against Russian election meddling, or any number of bills where you kicked the middle class in the teeth. I wish you were as concerned about what Putin does as you are about what Elizabeth Warren says.

Don't panic yet. I've read two articles on the bill. One says something like it only allows state ag dept's to grow hemp for research purposes, the other says it will allow commercial production (if a state allows it).

I.e., sounds like two different things and, if so, can't tell yet which is correct.

The last thing you was to do is mix them in the same field, it will reduce the thc levels of MJ.

Of course that doesn't matter to the feds.

The feds already allow it under the Cole memo here in CO. There's an increasing acreage devoted to low thc/high cbd strains. It's tricky for growers because even hemp naturally has more thc than the statutes allow. If it tests a teensy bit too high it all gets plowed under making it a risky crop.

This has been an argument for hemp legalization for decades. Grow vast quantities of industrial hemp everywhere and the marijuana crop is ruined.

The ganja from the initial planting would be fine. The seeds from those plants would produce plants of reduced & erratic potency.

Companies that produce seed corn & squash face similar issues.

Step in the right direction but Christ Almighty why is it so difficult to just legalize marijuana already? We’ve already seen it’s not the end of the world. It’s inevitably going to happen as we are seeing time and time again.

Just do it already.

It's still a good idea, freaking pass it already.
