Well, I am talking about the latest edition of both the software when I say this: Which one is better, Mcafee Virusscan or Norton Antivirus? Especially for gamers and people who have lots of background applications running.

They both suck.

:)
They do, but I can be more helpful than that. Norton is extremely slow in terms of the number of files it can scan per minute. It also looks like a circus freak. I lacks many advanced configuration options. McAfee finds less viruses in my tests, and its GUI is also very odd.

I highly recommend either the Corporate version of Norton Antivirus, which is extremely flexible and fast, or the Panda antivirus (shareware available) which is fast and friendly.

Good luck!

I would agree that the Corporate version, if you can get your hands on it, of Norton is superior to McAfee. I haven't used McAfee in awhile because alot of their av programs took up alot of cpu time. They came out with some patch that supposedly fixed that, but I never saw any results other than unistall/reinstall the software.

There are much better choice for less money, like NOD32, KAV, or RAV, all have better trojan/unpacker support than norton. Mcafee however has a great unpacking engine

Better? Perhaps. However, OEM versions are less than $20. Plus, Symantec seems to always have a "free after rebate" offer for their new versions so if you buy it at the right time, you never have to pay for signature updates.

Anyway, what is the difference between Norton Antivirus, Norton Antivirus Corporate and Norton Antivirus NFR? I won the NFR version at a giveaway and I would like to know if the live updates are good for only 90 days or 1 year. Someone I know just bought a computer with McAfee on it. If Norton is much better than McAfee and the updates are for 1 year, I would simply give the unopened Systemworks NFR package to that person.

I use AVG which`s free and works fine while I`m in gaming(no lag that I notice) as for Norton or McAfee well McAfee is a little better resource wise, however Norton`s the most popular.

Kaspersky Antivirus has one of the most user-hostile GUIs known to man. It looks more like a database exploration tool than antivirus :)

I have used, Norton A/V Corp, Norton AV 2003, and NOD32. NOD32 detected abt 20 viruses which none of the Norton's did.

Just for ur info.

They are both good if they are used properly and updated weekly. I have used McAfee since it was shareware in 1985 - and have never gotten a virus.

AVG let's me download emails infected with klez. If I save the attachment, AVG will warn me the moment I click on the file though.
