MCafee USB Drive Keychain USB drives on sale..

ok, here are the prices and price/MB:

16MB = $30 = $1.88
32MB = $40 = $1.25
64MB = $70 = $1.09
128MB = $100 = $0.78
256MB = $180 = $0.70
512MB = $350 = $0.68
1GB = $600 = $0.59

just in case you wanted to know... =)

I wonder if the low transfer rates are due to the USB interface, or to the flash memory itself. If the former, then it makes sense to wait for the USB 2.0 version.

yep UBS 2.0 would be nice plus hopefully by then they will drop in price! I would love one of these 1 giger's but 600.00 is too rich for my blood!

I'd like to see some reviews of the different USB disk on key implementations. A friend of mine said that he had heard that all but one brand had slow transfers, combatibility problems, a need for additional drivers on certain configs, etc... I'm pretty sure he said the ones at www.diskonkey.com were the good ones.. but again, I'd like to see some comparisons and reviews.

It might be worth it to pay extra for something you know will transfer data faster and work on every computer that has a USB port.

And a USB 2.0 version would be smokin'! 🙂

I can personally vouch for the Apacer brand. I got the 64 mb variety from Meritline. Their prices are better and the packaging was retail. Came with a driver disk (for Win98, which I do not use) and a USB extention cable so you do not have to crawl behind you pc everytime you want to use it (for those of us who do not have the nifty front USB ports).
I love it. It is designed for small file storage that needs to be ultra portable. I use it for projects I am continually working on both at home and work.
Granted, the price per mb is higher than CF, but for my money, this was a great purchase.

Anyone know if these require a driver to be installed? I know for sure that traditional USB compact flash readers must have a driver installation or it wont work. Some of us here aren't allowed to install drivers on the PC they need to transfer files to/from.

only on win98se you need drivers, and i'm assuming anything before that that supports USB... you can download them from the website. these are great, i use them exclusively now, no more floppy pains! the only hassle is reaching to the back of some of the computers! They have to make front USB ports standard on all machines! I don't know how i lived without mine!

By the way i got the diskonkey 32mb @ $40 after a dell deal a few months ago, this is a great price IMHO! (I'd actually go for the 64MB! You can't go wrong with more!). I believe the diskonkey brand v2 can be used as a bootable usb drive!
