i guess that karma for my a$$ when i downloaded the mcafee virusscan 8 off their website when it was for people who bought ver3 and 4 from a lawsuit.

the program nearly made me reformat my computer and i spent like 2-3hours unstailling and rebooting to get my system running normally.

i was getting bsod's and the security center took up a ton of a resources.

and either mcafee or spybot 1.3 deleted nearly all my windows critical updates and i had to redownload and reinstall all of them again.

beware of mcafee!

me too !! SpamKiller hijacks other dll's and if you get a virus scan that quarantines a suspected virus and it also is listed as spam by McAfee; getting rid of it; gets rid of necessary dll's from the other app's! What a mess.

my school distributes virusscan 7.0 for teacher/staff/student use, and it hasn't caused any major problems I am aware of. rather, it is norton that is the cause of a lot of people coming for help, especially that cursed norton internet security. we have virusscan 8.0 licensed for on-campus use, and likewise, haven't received a whole lot of complaints about it.

Am running VScan 7.X for a couple of years - excellent results - no problems. I bought 8.0 but was unable to use it because the registration screen would not show me all the stuff I needed to fill in and I refuse to change my screen resolution, i.e., to let the tail wag the dog - so I keep on with 7.X. It is all I need, and it does not interfere with XP SP2 either.
