MB's Battery is Dieing?

I have noticed that within this past year I have had to manually re-set my time on/in my computer........would seem to indicate that the battery on the MB may be wearing out. Years ago when I got my 1st computer I "think" I read that IF that little battery ever goes dead - YOUR 'puter is a DEAD.......seemed to indicate, at the time, that you would lose everything and you'd have to replace the battery and start all over.

PLEASE inform me about what I should know concerning losing your puter's battery and..........

If your battery goes dead you will have to reset cmos settings like date/time/boot order each time you power off. Typically they are a CR2032 and you can get them at radio shack for about $3. Cheap to replace even if it doesnt end up being the issue

TKS for response - - - - so IF I pick up a NEW replacement battery [take out the one that is in there] and install it.........will it continue to work normally after install of NEW battery and I won't have to re-set CMOS etc.?
