MBP won't boot now.

Just did my first Time Machine and it won't boot now. Mid 2010 MBP 15".

tried both drive connected and not connected..just sits at the Apple Screen and the hourglass wheel.

Did your first time machine as in backed up the data, or tried to restore from the data?

If it was a backup, and you think it was successful, then your option of last resort will be a reinstall, and restore from Time Machine, leaving you in the exact state you were in before it failed to boot.

What drive is connected and not connected? The Boot drive or the TM drive?

First time doing a time machine backup...new drive.

The drive connected/not connected was the TM drive (usb).

You need to do the initial install and then when it starts up you use the TM backup to restore. I did the same thing with my mid 2010 13" MBP - works wonders.

I am bringing it in today...it may be related to having my keyboard replaced last week.

Reseting the PRAM, holding c or shift do nothing but go to the Apple screen and rotating circle.

It's not booting from the OSX disc nor giving startup options. The time machine backup may have had nothing to do with this I am thinking.

I stopped by my office and my snow leopard disc did boot so I guess they are tied to hardware, anyway it says my disc is corrupt

Fortunately I have a TM backup hopefully it works as do my two virtual machines

I don't know WTF happened other than possibly my external drive may be bad....don't know why it would have affected the main drive. I did hear the ext. drive clunk a few times loudly today so I am decommissioning it.

Hopefully it doesn't happen again with my main drive. I ordered a new external.

I wasn't able to TM back, but fortunately I was able to do a Migration from the TM drive and captured about 90% of what I needed. My VM's were wiped out so I needed to reinstall W7, Office, Visio, IE9, and all the windows updates...
