MBP Power Adapters

It's looking like my current MBP power adapter has bit the dust. It still works... but only sometimes. The cord from the outlet to the brick and the brick itself are both fine. The MagSafe portion, however, is not. It appears that there's a loose wire or something, because when I plug it in to my MBP, it doesn't always make a connection and provide power. Lately, I've had to jiggle the cord around a bit in order to get it to charge/provide power.

My question is, is there somewhere I can get a cheap power adapter for my MBP? I really, really, don't want to pay $80... so used or refurbed is highly preferred.

Apple hasn't licensed the MagSafe connector, so I doubt you'll be able to purchase a cheaper 3rd party charger. Have you tried taking it in to the genius bar and asking for a replacement? I might work. If not, I'd check Craigslist and/or eBay before buying a new one from Apple.

Definitely check ebay or craigslist. But make sure that you actually get a good one. Tyranicus ordered one from ebay and the power cord was something like 1.5 feet long instead of the usual 3-4 ft.

This. If your laptop is still under warranty, you will definitely get it replaced. If it isn't, you may still luck out depending on how new your MBP is.

I took my 2.5 year old mbp in to a genius bar to get new rubber feet. They didn't even ask about applecare (which I do have). I showed them the power cable (nema 5-15p to transformer) had the plastic cap at the transformer end come loose. They gave me a new cable, no questions asked. They could have simply used the exact same superglue to repair it that they had just used to put the replacement feet on with...

This was about 2 weeks ago at the Crocker Park Apple store in Cleveland. They might still have the orphaned companion transformer with magsafe connector available.

Yeah dude, that was really annoying. The fact that it burned out 6 months later sucked too.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I asked around and found out that my laptop is under warranty through my school until 2010. I'm going to make a call to Apple on Monday and see about getting a new one. However, I didn't realize that my laptop was still under warranty until AFTER I bought a refurbed OEM power supply... so I guess I'll either try and return the one I bought, or sell the new one I get from Apple.
