MBA

So what does an MBA graduate from a subpar school do? What kinds of jobs are out there?

Just curious.

Thats a LITTLE vague. MBA helps a lot in the business world, but will not help much for starting your own business. So if you work for GM and want to move up, you need a MBA. If you want to start a business, network more and talk to a lot of bankers.

Haha... I have a CE degree and am thinking about getting an MBA, but I dunno what I would want to do... The school I would want to go to is not real popular or anything so it's not like I would get a job just because of the school... (www.franklin.edu)

"Oh, you have an MBA... In that case, I'll have to show you how to do it."
😀

I love that commercial, and I wouldn't wanna be that guy 😀

No offense but getting an MBA from there would be a waste of time.

I am working on a BS/MS EECE degree right now at RIT and I was thinking that when I get out I should go get an MBA. I would also be curious to hear what people think about this...

Where did you get your CE degree and how long ago?

it's generally the case that an MBA is only useful if received from a top 25 school (maybe even just top 10). Otherwise, you'd be better off learning things on your own (since a degree from another institution wouldn't count for much).

I took the GMAT last month. I'm hoping for Duke's program. My resume is strong and several of the profs are my drinking buddies.

why

Why do you even want to get an MBA? These days, a MBA is only useful if you're looking to get into upper management in a bigger company. It is also useful if you're looking to start up your own company, after you've worked at a bigger company and had some relevant experience.

I think I might like to get into management, and most of the job postings here at work require an MBA... so I figured that most employers required an MBA for management positions. Right now I just work in the IT department. I mean the only way to move up in IT is to learn more or get certifications right? Management seems like the only way to excel... Of course, I am only 21... I don't think they would hire a 23 year old MBA grad 😀

An MBA degree is nice to have but it will not be a deal breaker. I got one a couple years ago and I am planning to go back for MSCE and Cisco certifications.

If I were to be accepted by Vanderbilt I was considering doing the 5 year joint MBA program. Would that be a waste of time? Vanderbilt's business school is only ranked 45 by US news I think.
