Mazda RX8 owners chime in

that's too bad. at least mazda is doing the right thing:
"We're going to give these cars the white-glove treatment," Davis said. "We would rather replace the engine than have the dealer crack them open."

Stupid rotary engines. 😀
They are pretty good, but won't last long at all. High maintanance, but when i'm rich I'll get a rotary just for kicks.

lol the RX8 is a rolling disaster, particularly the engine. The car has no torque, then mazda overrates the motor and backpedals 250 HP to 238. The car is slow as hell, most people can't match magazine times, hell i've seen an RX8 run 16s at the dragstrip while being passed by a civic. Oh yeah the car drinks oil and gets the mileage of an SUV. So now because the motors drink oil, this also causes it to kill catalytic converters? What an engineering disaster, zoom zoom.

It seems like Mazda built a good track car....what else can we expect from the good ol' rotary?

No Japanese cars really aim to be torquey except for Nissan's.

On a per displacement basis Nissan motors don't make more torque than any other japanese make.

Since torque is proportional to displacement, the fact that Nissan gives their engine more cubes than other Japanese cars supports the other poster's statement- Nissan does aim to be torquey by giving their cars more displacement.

supposedly the engines suseptible are the ones that dont really rev the snot out of it.
if you baby it, the engine goes bad

more like Zoom, Zoom, Boom.

😀

I really liked the styling of the RX-8. Hopefully they pull that out and stick in a turbocharged V-6 or something.

Its too bad, the RX-8 is one of the most fun cars I've ever driven. I was really hoping the reliability issues had been worked out with the Renesis - guess not.

Oh well, time to name it something else, give it a DI turbo 4 like they should have from the beginning, and build another RX-7 😀

they had to lower the HP rating twice, not even counting the SAE changes. the engines eat oil faster than my 15-year old accord. the back seats are less useful than those in even a Porsche 911 (despite the money they wasted on those doors), it looks like a chick car, and it doesn't even get good gas mileage...

and now this.

how exactly are we supposed to trust the boosted-up-the-ass turbo 2.3 liters? we KNOW that mazda will happily sell crap.

Yeah, that's right, they happily sell crap because they love pulling every RX-8 vehicle back in for testing at manufacturing plants rather than use their dealers and doing thousands of hours of labor all on their own dime.
