Pointless, it's probably going to cost as much as an RX-8. Just get one of those. Sub 7 second 0-60 shouldn't be called "Performance".

<------- fvck the madza, get the damn 350Z, have u seen it, AMAZING

That 7.0 figure is wayyyy underestimated, 175 HP in a FWD 3000lb car can get you 7.0 secs, I'd be willing to bet it's mid-low 6's

The standard 3s with a 5-speed is already at about 7.0 - 7.4 seconds. The MPS should be closer to 6 or below.

But then you're driving a Mitsubishi.

Heh, and this Mazdaspeed 3 is not a competitor to the 350Z... thats called the RX-8 😛. The MS3 is comparable to the Sentra SE-R.

I think in todays market, you need to be in under 6 seconds in order to be considered "fast."

I was comparing Mazda products to Nissan products.

These are likely to be joined in future by a new version of the classic rotary-engined RX-7 two-door coupe. This would sit between the MX-5 and the RX-8 and be powered by the RX-8's powerful rotary engine. Mazda insiders maintain the car will be built, but it is still at least three years away.

OHGOD! I think I just felt my balls explode in my pants!

Sweet merciful crap...I KNEW it...I KNEW they were gonna put the RENESIS into an RX7...

*Dreams sweet dreams of Twin-turbocharged RENESIS engines*

I hear the Nissan SRT4 is pretty fast though. Also heard the interior is pretty poor, however.

Ah, got ya, I thought you were thinking in terms of the entire marketplace, I thought to myself "man, there's more to compete with that than the SE-R!" 😛

Chances are that it's FWD so it doesn't compete with the S40. We'll see how Mazda will be able to cope with the Torque Steer. Dodge was able to do a good job with the SRT-4. Plus, Mazda has the advantage of a new chassis.

Well, if they were going to be bringing back the nameplate, why wouldn't they use their newest Rotary? 😛

The S40 is primarily FWD. That's the only one I'd have. Haldex drive train loss, along with a STRONG FWD bias makes it a terrible AWD system for performance. The FWD S40 T5 is much more spirited.

 to Mazda. Too bad its still FWD though.

Should be a fun car, that motor takes boost pretty well, so there will probably be some scary tuner cars out there. Hopefully they'll keep the price in check with their competitors.

I would have to agree.

When a Neon can do sub 6 seconds that's pretty pathetic.

Especially with that much rated HP.

Viper GTS
That's because the dolt who wrote the article didn't realize that a 256 hp engine in that thing will put its 0-60 in the high 5s or 6 top, not "less than 7 seconds", which is misleading.
