Mazda Attacks Golf GTIi with MPS Mazda 3

Yeah, AWD would be nice. I like the 5-door, though.

Anyone know what it will weigh in at? My only gripe about the GTi is that is so freaking heavy.

I think Mazdaspeed only picks one body type and there was never any doubt in my mind that they would go with the hatch instead of the sedan. AWD would have been nice, but would probably require more power due to more weight/drivetain loss and then you're knocking on the Mazdaspeed6's door. If you trust car mags, it seems the new GTI is no slouch, and if we're lucky we'll see a 4motion version someday. Personally, I'm waiting about 4 years for a gently used A3 5 door with DSG and a nice 3.2l V6.

What lead you to that conclusion? The Mazdaspeed Protege and 6 are based off the vanilla 4-door sedan counterpart. I was hoping they would continue the tradition with the 3.

YEEEEESSS THEY ARE BRINGING BACK THE RX-7!!! THE SEXIEST CAR EVER DESIGNED!

Well, the FD35 version at least..

OMG Please mazda put the RENESIS engine in the RX-7 and slap twin-turbos on it. It will be a disgusingly sick BEAST of a machine.

*takes breath*

Nice! now I can dump my protege5 and get the MPS Mazda 3. I've always wanted a 200hp mazda P5 now I can have it. 😀

FD3S... and with today's PC and anal regulations... i bet that new RX-7 won't have the balls of the 3rd gen either.

I found this interesting:

Bakaj and his team are examining electric turbos and superchargers to uprate the 228bhp Renesis rotary engine for MPS versions of the RX-8 and forthcoming two-seat RX-7. But he has ruled out using the Renesis in the new MX-5, due next year.

Mazda is also working on a hybrid version of the RX-8, and plans to build a small fleet for use by the Japanese government. An H2-powered RX-8 could go on sale as soon as there are sufficient hydrogen refuelling stations, likely to be first in California.
