Hey...

I'm in the market for a used car and came across a person selling a 2000 V6 Mazda 626 with 70,000 miles for $6500. Sounds like a decent deal but am not sure if I'd wanna go with a Mazda. I've had a bad experience with my previous Mazda so not sure... Can anyone comment on the 626?

Thanks

Kelly blue book trade in value
Excellent $4,925

Good $4,490

Fair $3,755

I had TWO BAD experience with Mazda (1994 MX-6 and 1995 Millenia). Lots of problems after mileage over 50,000
Hopefully things have improved in recent models.

I owned a '98 626 EX with all the extras including the V-6. Wife put 110k miles on it and we sold it for 5200 last year. We kept it looking like new and the only problem I ever had was the AC compressor pulley going bad (had to replace compressor) . Other than that, we had absolutely no problems with the car. Matter of fact, she did not want to get rid of it, but we did not need three vehicles at the time. Having said that, I know someone who works at a Mazda dealership and he told me that getting the V6 was smarter because most of the problems that he encountered were in the 4 cyl. models and the 6 was a very good car. Transmissions tended to be the sore point with these cars, so be aware of that.

My sister has 2002 626 that I helped her pick out. It's a boring car - but it does everything she asks it to do, without any problem. It's been a good car.

thats what I read in the other reviews online too. However, is it safe to say that most of the transmission probs are with the 4 cylinder models and not the 6?

When you say boring, is it becaues the interiors and accesories arent all that great?

Thanks mch for the input guys.. appreciate it..

I'm still going on my '93 626 V6. It's only got 104 thousand miles but people are surprised that a car that runs that well can be over a decade old. I've replaced an airbag sensor ($500 includes labor), muffler ($300 includes labor), spark plug wiring ($60 once and warranty for free replacement the other two times my own labor), something else that i can't remember for $500...and i probably need to replace the fron struts soon. Everyone says the trasmission sucks...it has felt awful going from first to second since it was new.

YMMV

Those are all the problems that the car has had since it was driven off the dealer lot.

Brother checked it out on his way back from work. Car seems to be in decent shape although the AC doesn't cool. It has 86,000 miles on it as opposed to the 70,000 miles which was posted....The seller said he'd go down to $6000 and thats negotiable if we're "serious" about the car. He had the timing belt changed recently and also the transmission checked... Seems like a pretty good deal to me if I could get negotiate it down to $5400-$5500..I'll check the car out tomorrow and see how it goes.
