Mayhem in progress three-quarters of a mile from my house

Hyderabad, India
There's this major intersection half a mile away from my home that is always bustling with activity. It connects a densely populated middle-class residential area (where I live) to Jubilee Hills, 5 miles down the road where you have Dell, GE, Google and all the fancy IT companies. It's like the American equivalent of a freeway with lots of trucks plying into/out of the city.

At the intersection I speak of, there are a whole bunch of fruit/vegetable/small item vendors that attract tons of people during the afternoons (it being Ramadan and everything).

Barely an hour ago, a trucker lost control and smashed through these sidewalk fruit/vegetable stalls, killing four people instantly. The people went into shock at first, then after a minute, realized the driver had disappeared without a trace. Even before the police got there, the entire crowd went into mob mentality and here is what has been done so far:

The truck - set on fire. The fire trucks are just putting it out.
The accident caused a huge traffic jam. 35, I repeat, 35 trucks had their windows smashed and the mob was going to set them on fire too. The police got there in time and started firing warning shots to try and get them under control.
One Bus, owned by the Public Transport, was also smashed.
The news on TV is now saying more than 80 vehicles are suspected damaged in the chaos and fighting that ensued between the mob and the police. What the hell!!!

Now a sad thing happened - four poor fruit vendors died at the hands of one irresponsible driver. Now why the hell did they set that truck on fire? What if the fuel tank had exploded? It was up on the curb, right next to a huge building and an electric transformer. What if the fire got out of control?

The entire area has been put under a lockdown - there are more cops than people on the roads now. Everyone is staying put indoors. Talk about things spiraling out of control.

:)

I hear things were awesome here when you guys were around;)

I can't head out anywhere on a Sunday evening - body searches and barricades set up everywhere. New reports say death toll may climb - a few more people are in critical condition.

The British would have taken the brown man's money and land while he was busy fighting the other brown man. Then they would justified it by saying "We gave you a railroad so that enslavement and robbery is ok...and don't worry about stripping historical monuments of anything shiny and valuable...and imposed crazy taxes and restrictions so we could get more money...and..."

This kind of ****** makes me so thankful I live in the United States. Attmittedly , we have crazy things happening here as well. But it's not a common thing to see people upset and turning into a mob over something like this.
You would more likely see a mob of people out helping the unfortunate victims.

My Dad had been yelling his lungs off about this. "How does this solve or help anything?" was his question. The problem here is people always want to 'help' the little guy - the truck owned by a major transport company is evil, the poor people that are now lying dead in the morgue are 'the little guys who always get screwed'. They couldn't get their hands on the driver (how he disappeared into the crowd is beyond me), so set the truck on fire as a statement of people-served justice. Lynch mobs FTL.

People here just LOVE to set things on fire - trucks, buses, cars etc. Once the police start conking them on the heads with batons, the police assumes the role of 'evil'. Some idiot picks up a rock and smacks a cop in the head - the cops turn up the aggression. It becomes a crazy chain reaction and in the end, you get 5 hour exclusives on 'Police Atrocities while controlling a mob' on TV :disgust:

mobs are not exactly known for rational behavior
