Maybe Performance Issues?

My issue is games, some of the better games just "freeze" during the menu such as Half Life 2: DM and Counterstrike: Source but the old Counterstrike 1.6 runs fine. I'm really wondering what the problem is.

Specs:
AMD 64+ 3000 SCKT 754
DFI Lanparty Ut 250GB Nforce3 Sckt 754
512MB Corsair PC-3200 (single)
BFG 6800 OC
Maxtor 160GB 7.2K IDE HD

Well I recently reinstalled windows and my formated my applications & games partition. Before I had a MSI K8T-Neo FIS2R board in this computer and the games ran fine. That board seemed less than this one to me, so I am wondering. I installed the newest Nforce driver pack from the nvidia site and installed the latest omega video drivers (tried regular nvidia drivers with no diffrence)

Basically... I'm lost, im not really a "newbie" but this has got me confused. I'd think it has something to do with my MB, CPU, or maybe HD.

Do any other games besides the Valve games freeze? Could be a game-specific issue. What is the nature of the freezing? Does your system completely lock up? Could be quite a few things...

but No for the sake of testing I also installed SWAT 4 demo and got the 3DMark 03 benchmark tool. Turns out SWAT4 also freezes on the menu which really is weird. But the lockups are basically like this. I move my mouse and it freezes for basically 6 seconds then it stutters to another place or it moves freely for a few seconds. Any tests or advice would be appreicated.

EDIT: My powersupply is Antect True 480 WATT
I didn't have any issues with this with my old MB.

I would try just a regular old video card to see if it changes anything.

Well I just moved into a temporary residence and all my other computers and parts are unavailable.
