Maybe OT: What software firewall is the best to use?

I can't find a firewall that I like using (feature, GUI, etc. -wise) so I'll just take whatever you guys say is good ^^. And also, I don't have money or the space to get a router (my room is small!)

What operating system?

For windows, Tiny Personal Firewall is good and free.
For Linux, use iptables/
For *BSD use ipfilter or packet filter.

I second Tiny Firewall for Windows.

Otherwise uses Linux, Smoothwall for its rich features, or built/download an LRP floppy image if you want a floppy version.

Tiny is good. So is Zonealarm, which is free at its basic level. PCMag has a recent review here.

LRP is awesome, but hard to use if you don't know linux.

FREESCO is a CINCH.

All you need is one crappy 386 w/ 6 megs of RAM, FLOPPY and two NICS. You don't even need a monitor/kb/mouse as long as the bios will boot w/o one.

And you can telnet into it to configure it after it successfully boots.

Of all the software firewalls I've tried (ZA, Norton, McAfee, BlackICE), I recommend Tiny Personal Firewall. It's hard to use/configure if you don't anything about IP addresses, protocols, sockets, etc. but it gives you full control. The status window tells you what application is accessing the net to what IP address, on what port, etc. It even allows you to remotely control it. ZA is also a good option if you want something easy to use and don't what to mess around the options with TPF.
