That this has more harm to the Europeans than the Americans is a possible game changer. We no longer have to rely on Obama and I hope that stronger sanctions from both America and the European countries will start to sap the Russians. There is now also the possibility of much stronger support for the Ukrainians from America and the European countries including huge military aid and possible air support and special operations units fighting in Ukraine with the Ukrainian military.

And fuck Obama I want to see if Ban Ki-Moon does anything. Fucking inept corrupt bastard.

No no it does not - at least according to all the news reports I have read. The suspected battery involved was captured from the Ukrainians.

The Iraqi insurgency easily could have captured weapons that could have shot down planes which is exactly what happened in the Ukraine yet we and everyone else kept flying overhead. These rebels (or whatever you want to call them) didn't build it they didn't buy it or get it from Russia. They captured it. This easily could have happened in Iraq, Israel, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc etc

Well it would be a terrible PR maneuver to continue flying regardless of the risk involved. And why are you only talking about the Ukraine in terms of risk? Tens if not hundreds of thousands of flights have been flown over countries where militants have captured weapons capable of bringing a commercial airline down

Just keep in mind that history shows you are far more likely to be shot down by a Government controlled AA emplacement than a rebel\militant controlled one. IMO we'll see a knee jerk reaction and suspend all flights over te Ukraine but flights over other conflicted areas will continue as they have for the past several decades without incident despite the presence of weapons that could bring down a commercial airline

Regardless what actually happened, the likely outcome of this is the western world (and israel) will go to war with Russia, based on the following facts:
- malaysia is a very close ally to UK.. so this was a slap in the face for UK people
- They could've chose any planes flying to asia to shot down, but no they have to choose malaysia air that just had a plane down 3-4 months ago.. this was PURELY intentional
- Even if this was done by russia or crazy people from ukraine, it was endorsed that putin. that guy has lost it, even merkel said so. This guy will create the destruction of russia. Before he can do that there will be a coup and his reign and the oligarchs will be over
- Germany will finally turn against russia and turn off the spigot to them. Western europe will suffer a bit due to the stop of gas flowing from russia. However russia needs the money more if they decide to go for war... will nukes fly? hope not
- Israel is probably gonna get the green light from US to invade/nuke ukraine.. and make sure russia forces will go away from ukraine peninsula
- the world will not be quiet and defend the western world
- obama's interview was VERY careful... he is not a war monger but a situation like this is too important to neglect. Ukraine is highly strategic for the western world and US/israel interests, but like i said he is not a war monger.. he is a smart guy with a long term thinking process.. the fact that he was very careful shows that he is planning something in return
- will this be start of WW3? what if china joins the fray? hope not... i dont think xi jin ping is that crazy especially how fragile the true china economy is

I can't imagine Putin wanted this to happen. I think he is facepalming right now wondering how his monkeys could be so stupid and scrambling to cover any evidence that leads to Russia.
 
It's times like these I'm glad I'm an American. Our TSA would have had them turn off all of their ground to air missiles before our plane would have taken off.

It is definitely a face palm moment for putin.. but this guy is toast.. its irrelevant who actually did it... he played a role when he invaded ukraine...
if he doesnt resign his comrades will drag him out to the streets... he is too smart to let that happen.. he will go on a self imposed exile and medvedev or someone else will step in

Nothing will happen Russians have shot down commercial airliners in the past. This is not new.
 
We need to do more. We can not just let this slide and keep allowing the Russians to shit everywhere. The British and Ban Ki-Moon are already calling for an offical UN investigation. Let us hope this goes somewhere and we can get full sanctions of the Russians and maybe even the Chinese will distance themselves from supporting the Russians on this conflict.

I'd love for this to happen. You hope nukes will not be used but I hope they are used. A nuclear WW3 is inevitable so may as well get it overwith. Some probably will survive and carry on after WW3. And that's according to some experts not just me.

Please stop babbling on about MH370 in your story about the jet that got shot down. I mean yeah, it's the same airline, but by making that association, you're implying that losing a second jet makes the airline look bad in light of the first, which is pretty absurd. The airline didn't fire a missile at an unarmed civilian aircraft....

Besides, tying it to this story solely because the same company is involved makes about as much sense as bringing up the holocaust in a story about VW iPhone integration solely because the same company is involved....

You have a point about all the other zones and access to this weaponry -- news says it's from the 1980s, so you can probably get a 2 for 1 deal on the black market.

But for Iraq, you had the best military in the world flying hundreds, if not thousands, of patrols in the air. Lot of these were relatively low flying helicopters, so why bother with the plane 30k feet up in the air when you have these easy targets? Not to mention all those low flying military transports flying in around airports.

And you had over a hundred thousand heavily armed, well trained soldiers on the ground covering a lot of ground. It'd be difficult to park such heavy weaponry and use it without being caught.
 
There were Nukes around in the 1940's, doesn't mean you could go to a black market these days and just buy a high altitude SAM launcher and be able to use it off the bat like you can't one of those.

This was not you're standard point and aim Stinger thing.

That missile that hit that was pretty heavy duty shit.

It's a old school, meant to take try to take out B-52's type of a weapons platform.

Well, I'm not sure the hardware or know-how was necessarily Russian, in the Russia-which-is-outside-Ukraine sense.
The hardware could simply be stolen or deserted Ukrainian hardware, and the operators could well be Ukrainian deserters. If they're operating as Cossacks, they may have had training in Russia as well, while actually being locals of the region.

But all of that doesn't really matter, if Russia lets them get away scot-free with it, and continue their support of these forces.

The operators probably weren't big pros, because then they wouldn't have messed up the intercept, and properly checked for IFF first. This sound more like some trigger-happy wise and beautiful woman wanting to play with their high-tech toy, and messing it up.
