Maybe it's about time to see a dermatologist? *new pic*

I've always had dry/sensitive skin (oh yeah....all those Dove soap and Shampoo commercials were made just for me :p ).

Every winter season I'd have patches of dry skin kinda "break out", for lack of a better term, but this season has been particularly bad and irritating.

I have patches like this one around my eyes, either side of my nostrils, the back of my neck, part of my hairline on my forehead, etc...only places on neck/head/face, no where else.

Basically it's red, dry, itchy, flaky (bad dandruff), and annoying. Can be better/worse on any given day.

I can pseudo-tame them with lotion, though that seems to be less effective this time around. I've used all kinds of lotion and currently use Vasoline Intensive Care and Cetaphil, as well as Head and Shoulder Intensive and Denorex for my scalp.

I'm really at wits end. I dunno if this is sebhorea (sp?), psoriasis, or what....But all I have is lotion to fight this and I think I'm losing/it's getting worse.

I've seen regular doctors about it before ('cause for insurance to cover the dermatologist they have to recommend one to me) and they always try to treat it themselves (despite my protests) to no avail, making me feel like a hypochondriac and prescribing some form of hydrocortizone, which inevitably doesn't really do much.

Any medical people out there who've seen something like this? Maybe give me some ideas of what it might actually be? My folks tell me that some doctor said I had psoriasis when I was little, but I don't remember it and they might not be 100% accurate in their story (I don't think it was a dermatologist).

*UPDATE*
Haven't seen a dermatologist yet (no time). But here's a new pic of what's going on on the back of my neck. (Taken with EOS 300D using Canon 50mm 1.8 mkII for those curious :p)

I'm really sorry, because I know this was a cry for help, but....

Yeah, I checked for EXIF before I asked. The 18-55mm seems pretty decent for the price. Thanks.

Winter rash. My hands get dry patches every winter too, and no other season does it happen.

1 world Elizabeth Arden 8 hour creme, it has helped everything for me from burns, to dry patches, to scrapes and all sorts of rug type wrestling burns!

I live on that stuff i put it on my lips before i go to bed and i never wakeup with dry lips, its the best.

It always cures bad sunburn when i put it on, trust me!

Get the gel version not the chapstick/lipstick version.

You would apply this before bed because its rather thick and i doubt you would want to leave with your face glistening

Looks like psoriasis to me. Hydrocortizone won't help for sh!t, nor will most general MDs. Go see a dermatologist (while you're breaking out). They have stuff to make it feel/look better.

Thank you, without the emphasis on the entire sentence he would have missed your post completely. We all not understand your passion for medical professionals.

Yeah.....guess I'll have to figure out how I can get to one and *hopefully* have insurance pay for it or something.

I was perscribed "Ammonium Lactate Cream 12%"
It says "For softening dry, scaly skin"

I have this "Icthyosis(sp?)" skin condition. (Genetically inherited, which sux arse) My skin is much worse than yours, and was born with extremely dry skin on my legs, arms, stomach, and scalp. I was perscribed this, and it is helping a lot better than the lotions I have tried. I tried like everything before, and am only starting to see improvement now.

GL with the dry skin.

Thanks for the info ya'll. Atleast I have an idea of what kinds of stuff are prescribed.

Seriously though....it's been such an ordeal. Everytime I've gone to a general care physician they always insist that it's not psoriasis/seborrheia cause "it doesn't have good/bad spells...it's always there" and that they can do just as well with their own treatment.

And, like I said, they'll just prescribe some hydrocortizone, which won't do d!ck, and I waste a $15 co-pay. Must be an ego thing.

Maybe I'll just have to pay out of pocket and make the appt. myself.

I think that's the ingredient in some Chinese creme my parents gave me to control itching. I looked it up on the internet, and it's also a steroid based creme like cortisone.

I too have these weird skin rashes that break out over the winter. They usually appear on my arms and legs and sometimes back. When they go into "remission", they look darker than my normal skin.

The problem I have with those cremes is that they might control the itching and stuff but what I really want is some sort of cure.

yea, ive have really sensitive skin and I get it all the time too.... its caused by yeast in your skin. UV light kills the yeast, but since youre more bundled up in the winter, it occurs more frequently

Bingo. Antifungal creams should work as well.
