Maybe Hot For The Brave Un's..XP Pro Upgrade $8

The Staples circular from 12/1 had Windows XP Pro listed as an upgrade WITH the purchase of a new computer...$24.90 after IR and MIR.
I took the circular to my local CC and went straight for the manager. I'm a regular at the store and we've had numerous discussions about CC and their PriceMatch policies.
When I showed him the ad from Staples, he didn't balk, he headed right for the software area and took one to a register. I walked out with a copy for $7.83..that included state tax. Two other friends did the same deal...and being the greedy SOB I am, I repeated.
I believe the reason the deal is doable was the incredible Black Friday weekend sales...the CC folks were VERY jovial and easy to get along with.
YMMV!

You may as well reveal your location, because the odds of this working nationwide -- or even anywher eelse -- are very, very slim.

I got my start with CC's PriceMatch policy at the Bailey's Crossroads, VA store a few years back. I learned well!
He doesn't mind seeing me as long as I don't tell too many people about the deals.

24.90 after MIR and IR, and you paid 7.xx... I don't get the jump down in prices.
Not only that, but the original deal was conditional... purchase a new computer... get the upgrade cheaper.

I think you might be yankin' our cranks.

It's pretty basic math...CC's regular list price is $199. Subtract the price showing in the Staples ad - $24.90 and that gives you $174.10. Add 10% to that and subtract the total of $191.51 and you get $8.49 as the net price.
While you sit there being sceptical, the deal is coming to an end Saturday and you'll have missed it.

PC911, that CC manager gonna lost his job especially after CC corporate HQ read this forum and figure out the store location....
BTW, what kind of PM discussion you guys are having over at the store? I tried the PM thing and they told me to buy a computer first and they'll PM the XP upgrade :(
being a regular, do you by any chance purchase any computers from that CC store?

The last computer I bought at CC was a Commodore 64. I do get my TV's, DVD's, software and other stuff from them...because of the PM policy.

Mike is a personal friend. If he said he got the deal, he got it. It doesn't belong in brag and moan if you still have the opportunity to cash in. Stop whining and go try.

Thanks Doc! The sceptics are the ones losing out. I'm the first to admit, I see a LOT of posts here I think I won't be able to get done. Contempt prior to investigation is a sure way to not score a deal.
The good Doc is an excellent ortho who did a procedure on my shoulder. We'd spend more time talking tech than medicinal stuff.

But the point here is you are admitting the CC manager didn't follow his own store's rules: The terms of the ad explicitly stated "with purchase of a computer."

There's no deal here. It was luck. If you want to duplicate it for everyone here, I'm sure they'd be happy to pay you shipping.
