I was at my local Fry's yesterday and I saw this memory on sale at Fry's for $129. Cheapest 512MB memory on pricewatch is $189 so this got be hot. I also picked up one for myself.

<< Glad I picked up two 512Mb sticks in December at $59 each 🙂 >>

y'know, hearing the now widespread "boy i'm so glad i got this ram for (Current price divided by 200) dollars when it was cheap!" doesn't help us unfortunate souls who didn't :frown:

<< Its 109 on special at N. Cal (Sunnyvale) ATM.

I bet they're PC2100. There is $79 difference between 2100 and 2700 on a 512MB stick.

Unfortunately, Fry's memory is nothing to drool over. I used to end up returning about half of it; and traced some instability to the RAM, after it was too late to return.

Stick with Crucial, or another good brand. And, Fry's is 20 min from my house.

:disgust:

I love around 1hr away from Fry's, and I'll tell you, it sucks having to return memory TWICE!!!, especially when it's their "name brand" RAM. Frkn 101!! Frkn Frys! At least all the other cool stuff their makes it worth it.... And In-n-Out in Gilroy on the way home....

I wouldn't put Fry's ram in any system of mine, even if they giving it away free.

...but, I won't stop you from frying your system.

About the Alpha Omega memory. I can say for sure that at least SOME of the ECC/Reg Alpha Omega DDR memory modules are in fact rebadged Micron originals (the big Micron sticker with the Micron part number next to the Alpha Omega sticker kind of gave it away). As for the regular non-ECC stuff, I couldn't say.

Nack

Just bought a strip at Fry's (Northern Calif, Fremont). It's on sale until the end of today (Tuesday) for $124,
not $129. The markings on the chips are by Nanya. They seem to work just fine on my Soyo Dragon motherboard.
But I didn't try to overclock it. Other than that, don't know what more to say about it. I seem to have more luck
with Fry's DDR memory than their SDR. On their SDR memory, about 1 out of 4 chips that I buy from them are bad.
They are pretty good about my returns, though. If you're willing to go back a few times with their bad memory
until you get a good one, then you sometimes end up getting pretty good deals on the memory. If you don't want
to deal with that, just go straight to crucial. But I do wonder what they do with all that bad memory that customers
return...sell them to the next customer that may not bother with returning?

DOH! Why'd you have to let everyone know their secret?

are these the same as the 512mb Nanya Ram that was on sale for $109 last week at Fry's?

I got the ones from last week and used it in my athlon system, stable at 145FSB CAS2, but couldn't go any higher without instability
I used to have a crucial PC2100 and it is rock stable at 150FSB CAS2.

The ones last week were PC2100, are the ones for $129 now actual pc2700 or are they just the same rams but sold as PC2700?
thinking about exchanging if they are actual PC2700 and hope to bump back to 150FSB.

Don't buy any RAM from Fry's unless you are willing to make multiple trips back there, stand in line for hours to return the bad RAM, only to get more bad RAM. Stick with Crucial and the 15% AT discount, especially for any overclocking.

The people that work at Fry's are some of the most amazingly ignorant people in the world so don't expect much.

It is indeed 2700 and its on red pcb... kinda cool looking, but it does not work in my Iwill 333-r. The guy that sold it to me told me he did not think it was going to work, but I could give it a try... Oh well it was worth a shot...

You just need to pick a right time to return stuff, usually around 11AM and 2PM there are less people there. 🙂
