Maybe funniest newscaster mistake ever

I worked in broadcasting for 10 years, 5 in local news, 5 at CNN...this kind of shit happens all the time. I need to get my old CNN blooper tape digitized one of these days (it's on Beta SP, which was industry standard for years).

The best blooper we ever had at CNN. A couple months after Fred Lane (Panthers running back) was shot and killed by his wife, we were doing the standard "Will Fred Taylor play or not play this week" story (Taylor was a running back for the Jags and was always banged up). Over the generic b-roll video of Taylor practicing, the following graphic ran: "Fred Lane - Not Expected to Play Sunday." The worst part, not a single person in the control room noticed the mistake.

I worked briefly in radio decades ago, where a favorite studio game was "Break up the Announcer". Rules were that the prankster could not make any sounds so the listener though whatever mistake was made was entirely the announcer's fault. A classic story concerned a news reader who normally stood at a microphone in an empty studio to read. Just after he started, two "friends" slipped into the studio and started to undress him. As he talked, they stripped him completely naked and left the studio. The old pro never missed a beat, and the listeners never knew.
